The Red Hat Experience Engineering (XE) Sustaining Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Maintenance Engineer to help a new team aimed at improving the long-term product experience of our Red Hat RHEL customers. In this role, you will work closely with Product Engineering to deliver extended product maintenance work. You'll be actively driving all aspects of Red Hat RHEL maintenance for a subset of product components. You will contribute to the patch review process, the development and execution of backports and test plans, and the creation of automation tools to improve the efficiency, flexibility, and quality of Red Hat’s patch delivery to customers.

What will you do:

• Work with Red Hat partners and cloud providers to create joint solutions based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform

• Test joint solutions with our partners and cloud providers preparing drafts for documentation

• Provide technical support to Red Hat enterprise customers by responding to incoming calls, chat, and web-based inquiries

• Partner closely with colleagues from Red Hat Sales to assist their understanding of the company's joint offerings with cloud providers

• Regularly communicate and collaborate with Red Hat engineers who are onsite at SAP in Germany

• Contribute internally to the Red Hat knowledge management system, share best practices with team members, and commit to internal projects and initiatives

• Troubleshoot and solve complex technical issues and drive issue escalation with Red Hat, cloud providers, partners, and customer teams

What will you bring:

• 3+ years of experience with Linux operating system installation, configuration, upgrade, and maintenance and a good understanding of Linux command line tools

• Software development background, including experience writing patches and with scripting languages like Bash, Perl, or Python

• Troubleshooting and debugging skills; passion for problem-solving and investigation

• Ability to work with minimal supervision with a globally distributed team of engineers

The following are considered a plus:

• Practical experience with cloud providers like Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google, and Alibaba

• Experience installing SAP products, including SAP HANA, SAP NetWeaver, S/4HANA, etc.
