What the day will look like

We are seeking an experienced consultant with in-depth clinical and population health improvement knowledge, along with practical application and advisory skills. This senior-level executive will lead projects and support overall client relationships, develop and deliver solutions, and engage in thought leadership at a national level.

Aon’s NA Health Solutions business works with small, mid-size and large employers, with a focus on managing cost, advancing health care quality, and enhancing the well-being experience of our clients’ workforce and families. We serve these clients through a unique blend of deep subject matter expertise, local market client teams, and an innovative portfolio of partnerships, solutions, and services.

The NA Chief Medical Officer role exists to help our clients make the best clinical decisions possible. As a credentialed medical director position, it is focused on both senior level health care solution development and consulting responsibilities for the Health Consulting practice. The position can be located in any US location and will require travel.

  • Thought Leadership: In collaboration with clinically trained colleagues, subject matter authorities and our Thought Leadership team, develop and articulate consulting viewpoints on existing and emerging health care topics; Work with marketing and public relations team to externally elevate Aon’s thought leadership through speaking engagements and media exposure.

  • Solution and Partnership Development: Bringing to bear intellectual influence and clinical priorities, develop consulting solutions and partnerships that align with our organizational perspective and growth objectives; partner with IIS and Innovation resources to drive solutions to completion, working with external partners as needed. Develop business rationale criteria for needed investments.

  • Client Consulting: Lead clinical health strategy and support delivery of consulting assignments for customers, working with other experts and the Health Solutions generalist client teams to meet the needs of the client in an efficient and effective manner; this role not only coaches and oversees work done by others but also is actively involved in the analysis and presentation to the client. Partner with Health Transformation Leader on clinical staffing needs, priorities, and execution of needed work, including clinical review decisions, appeals, audits, and other clinical functions.

  • Data Analytics: Using client’s health and related data, provide insights and actionable observations to address key cost and performance drivers for our clients. Collaborate with analytic leadership to enhance clinical predictive modeling and outcomes evaluation.

  • Business Development: Participate in business development meetings with existing clients and prospects; be knowledgeable about our broad capabilities in Health Solutions, and IIS, and be able to translate one’s own subject matter expertise into a value proposition that compels an employer to engage Aon as their consultant. The Chief Medical Officer also plays a critical role in refining our clinical go-to-market strategy to meet client needs across employer segments.

  • Knowledge Sharing: In partnership with thought leadership team, help raise the collective insightfulness of the Health Solutions consulting practice through a regular cadence of sharing of articles, observations on market trends, and leadership on internal colleague webcasts. The Chief Medical Officer will lead a collaborative effort with other clinical and strategic resources to shape our internal point of view when leveraging external knowledge sharing.

  • Talent Development/Leading via Influence: Whether directly or indirectly managing other colleagues, this is a senior leadership position and is expected to lead by example. Specifically, this colleague will intentionally mentor and develop other clinical colleagues to advance their expertise and consulting skills and serve as a role model for giving and receiving feedback after both internal and external meetings.

  • Contributing to Aon’s Global Health Business: Given the significance of the US health business as part of Aon’s Global Health Solutions portfolio, this role will play a key role in multi-country thought leadership and solution development related to clinical matters of interest to employers. The Chief Medical Officer will be a key member of the global clinical think tank, sharing points of view and benchmark ideas.

    As Chief Medical Officer, you will drive the clinical strategy for how we solve both today’s and tomorrow’s challenges for clients, working hand in hand with a wide array of subject matter experts, client teams, vendor partners, and clients themselves. This role will report directly to the Innovation and Integrated Solutions Leader. The Innovation and Integrated solutions (IIS) team is a group of thought leaders, domain experts, and solution developers who work with internal and external clients to bring critical healthcare expertise across pharmacy, wellbeing, clinical, leave and legal subject areas to improve health, performance and wellbeing of their people and organization.

    Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Fifteen years of industry experience including management of colleagues, as well as experience leading clinical strategies and solution development in support of employer needs.

  • Experience engaging employers at an executive level and establishing trusted advisor relationships.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage to completion, prioritizing tasks and delivering on deadlines with exceptional performance standards and attention to budget.

  • Experience developing and building clinical based solutions, partnering with internal and external collaborators.

  • Broad business knowledge/perspective, with deep health care domain expertise.

  • Proven track record collaborating successfully across multiple functions and experience levels, including with subject matter experts, analytics teams, and other intellectual influencers.

  • Experience translating health care data into insights and actionable strategies for employers.

    Education/Certification

  • Doctor of Medicine degree

  • Current Board Certification in medical area of focus

    The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $250,000 to $330,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant’s education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant’s geographic location.

    This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon’s annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
