Job Description

Oracle Linux powers Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, Oracle Exadata and a variety of other Oracle products. The Oracle Linux Core Kernel team is responsible for developing the heart and soul of Linux - the kernel. We provide the proven foundation on which other phenomenal pieces of technology stand. With the ever growing number of hardware resources that our systems contain, we are always looking for innovative ways to ensure scale and performance. We work closely with the upstream Linux community to develop these changes.

The team is responsible for key technologies within the kernel such as memory management, the scheduler, IO, scalability, performance, resource management, debugability and observability.

The candidate will work and contribute upstream in the area of memory management and huge pages as well in the areas where it intersects with filesystems. Responsibilities

As a senior Linux kernel engineer, you will be responsible for:

  • Working closely with the upstream Linux kernel community to deliver new and innovative changes with a focus in memory management

  • Working closely with other Oracle groups to understand their requirements and deliver change supporting those requirements

  • Help mentor and guide junior engineers

To succeed with these responsibilities, the candidate should have:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field

  • 6-10+ years of experience with the Linux kernel

  • Deep understanding of memory management in the Linux Kernel

  • Excellent understanding of the Linux development process and a consistent record of upstream contributions

  • Excellent C and assembly coding skills

  • Strong build, debug and test skills

  • Ability to evaluate and improve performance

  • A track record of delivering complex software projects in an open source community

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Excellent problem solving and critical thinking skills

  • Good leadership skills
