Fedcap Policy and Government Relations Manager in United Kingdom

The Role

The Policy and Government Relations Manager will be responsible for conducting in-depth research and analysis on public policy issues relevant to Fedcap’s mission and growth priorities, and for developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in the political and policy spheres at the UK, devolved administration, and local levels. This role is crucial for ensuring that Fedcap effectively influences public policy, as well as positions itself as a thought leader in relevant policy areas and as a trusted partner of public funders.

This is a hybrid role and candidates can apply for anywhere in the UK. There will however be a requirement for occasional travel (covered under our expenses policy).

Salary £45,000.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting comprehensive research on public policy issues, including employment, health, welfare, education, justice, and economic development, and ensuring that Fedcap’s policy positions are supported by robust evidence and research.

  • Monitoring and analysing political developments and public policy trends that impact Fedcap’s mission and operations.

  • Preparing reports, policy briefs, and research papers to communicate findings and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Working with the wider commercial team to ensure that policy insights contribute to market research and the identification of commercial opportunities.

  • Developing and executing strategies to engage with policymakers, including politicians, government officials, and public sector commissioners at the UK, devolved administration, and local levels.

  • Building and maintaining a network of contacts within the political and policy communities to advance Fedcap’s strategic objectives.

  • Supporting Fedcap representatives at political and policy events, including conferences, hearings, and meetings with government officials.

  • Coordinating with industry organisations to leverage Fedcap’s membership and maximise influence.

  • Engaging with think tanks, research institutes, and academic organisations to stay informed about the latest policy developments and research findings.

  • Deputising for the Head of Policy and Public Affairs.

Person Specification

Experience and Qualifications

Essential:

  • Proven experience in political engagement, public affairs, journalism, or a related role.

  • Strong understanding of the UK political landscape and public policy processes.

  • Strong research and analytical skills, with the ability to synthesise complex information and data.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of broad public policy issues related to employment, health, welfare, education, justice, and economic development.

  • Proven ability to influence and negotiate with senior stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex political and policy issues.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with strong organisational and time management skills.

Desirable:

  • Degree in economics or related field.
