Our Finland locations include Vantaa and Joensuu, employing over 800 professionals in R&D, production, supply chain, quality, marketing, sales, and administrative support. How will you make an impact

Senior Manager responsible for Software Development within the Microbiology Division. This new role that combines leadership all the Microbiology Division’s software R&D into one team. Additionally, the role will have significant strategic influence on a new R&D Program building AI into customer-facing diagnostic solutions.

In this role, you will lead the development of software solutions in our clinical and food microbiology product portfolios. You will play a pivotal role in advancing our capabilities in microbiological data analysis, software development and artificial intelligence.

The role requires leadership of software teams in remote locations and requires working with and influencing the work of colleagues globally in other functions. The role also requires collaborative working with other Thermo Fisher Divisions, external partners, academia and customers.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the design, development, verification, validation and transfer to manufacture of robust “best in class” software solutions that fulfills the requirements of our customers globally across all the Division’s strategic business focus areas

  • Drive the design and development of solutions against challenging timelines and ambitious specifications, ensuring alignment to quality, timing and budget

  • Provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction to the R&D software team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives, crafting and maintaining a team structure to best meet the needs of the business

  • Lead and develop a robust team across remote locations. Facilitate and mentor team members to be outstanding players. Championing employee engagement is a key responsibility of the role

  • Establish industry-leading technical capabilities within the team and leverage these strengths to develop market-leading software products and solutions

  • Collaborate with cross-company teams to share standard process and use their global network to guide and accelerate product development activity

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in software to proactively impact new offerings to customers

  • Provide technical leadership to new AI-based solution development for microbiological applications

  • Lead and drive functional/departmental continuous improvement and day to day operational projects

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree or higher in Computer Science or related field

  • Proficiency in most common programming languages

  • Experience with AI frameworks and libraries for image processing and analysis

  • Experienced at leading projects and people within a sophisticated matrix business environment and a new way to problem solving

  • An experienced leader with excellent communication skills and dynamic management techniques. They must be results orientated and demonstrate business insight

  • Able to influence key collaborators, inside and outside of R&D and outside of the company to achieve appropriate outcomes for projects and for the company
