Backend Unix/Linux Support Engineer
Preferred locations: Dublin, Madrid or Barcelona
2 days office working required each week
Key responsabilities include system patching, troubleshooting, engaging vendor, and automation. Join our team for a dynamic role in enterprise-level IT infrastructure.
System Engineer II is responsible for the daily, weekly, and monthly activities required to deliver multiple project tasks on-time while following all process and procedures’, escalating issues as necessary, and creating/updating all necessary documentation.
In addition, the System Engineer is responsible for but not limited to OS installs, upgrades, hardware moves and migrations, new server builds, providing advanced escalation support (including engaging vendor support), performance monitoring and tuning & host configuration.
What You'll Do
Manage system performance and ensure high availability of Oracle Linux systems through tuning and monitoring.
Perform patching, updates, and upgrades for Oracle Linux systems.
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues, ensuring timely resolution to minimize downtime.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth integration and operation of applications on Oracle Linux servers.
Automate repetitive tasks using shell scripts
Implement security protocols and best practices, ensuring that Oracle Linux systems are compliant with organizational and regulatory requirements.
Manage backups, disaster recovery, and system redundancy strategies.
Provide technical support and guidance to developers and other stakeholders on Oracle Linux-related issues.
Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and ensure system optimization.
Create and maintain detailed documentation on system configurations, processes, and procedures.
Responsibilities
What You'll Bring
3+ Years UNIX Support experience including Linux, & OEL operating systems
Knowledge on Virtual Server builds (Linux/Oracle).
Ability to work overtime and irregular hours when needed, including some nights and weekends
Knowledge of hardware
Understanding of high availability system design concepts and configuration best practices
Ability to manage multiple project tasks simultaneously
Understanding process for Change and Incident Management
Handling On-calls and troubleshooting skills
Experience in Scripting (Shell/Perl)
RHCS cluster Knowledge
Should come up with innovative ideas to automate the repeated work.
Helping Team with any technical issues
Multi-pathing software knowledge.
Active participation in community meetings
Desirable
Current RHCE/OEL certification
Understanding process for Change and Incident Management
Excellent verbal and written skills
Experience with SAN/Storage technology redundancy
Broad knowledge of IBM System hardware including latest p5 and P6 series, or HP rx series hardware
Must possess the initiative to resolve issues before they become critical
Propensity for knowledge sharing
Ability to work in a team environment
Innovative, self-motivated, and able to interact with all levels of the organization
Ability to work assigned night or day schedule and work off-hours when require.
