Seaspan Ship Management Ltd. Second Engineer in China
The Second Engineer is second in command and directly responsible to the Chief Engineer for the day to day running of the Engine Department and in maintaining a work environment which is safe and without risk to health as per the recommendations contained in the relevant Codes of Safe Working Practices for Merchant Seamen. He is a member of the Shipboard Management team and must be fully familiar with all aspects of the ship’s Safety Management System and should ensure that all allocated staff members are similarly aware. He is responsible for the planned maintenance, emergency maintenance and repair work of all kinds in the Engine Department, as directed by the Chief Engineer. He ensures that any Engine Cadets assigned to the vessel are given proper training and that their training records are maintained up to date.
