As an Engineering Manager, Durability (https://handbook.gitlab.com/handbook/engineering/infrastructure-platforms/data-access/durability/) , your primary focus lies on leading a world-class team and putting them in the optimal position to succeed. You’ll do this by maintaining an environment where team members can thrive and the team produces results.
You will partner with a Product Manager to connect business goals and customer needs with sound engineering to create a scalable product. Your team of SREs and Backend Engineers will be globally distributed and you will work in an async way to safeguard and secure customer data that is stored by the GitLab application, and set guidelines for accessing and processing it.
What you will do
Lead the Durability team within the Data Access (https://handbook.gitlab.com/handbook/engineering/infrastructure-platforms/data-access/) sub-department according to GitLab’s values (https://handbook.gitlab.com/handbook/values) and leadership principles (https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/leadership/#management-group)
Partner with a Product Manager and other engineering teams to ensure a scalable, reliable, performant, and sustainable storage solution for data storage and access patterns
Maintain an environment where Team Members can thrive and the team produces Results (https://handbook.gitlab.com/handbook/values/#results) for Customers
Hire and grow an incredible team that lives our values
Manage Agile projects
Improve the quality, security and performance of the product
Participate in the Incident Manager (https://handbook.gitlab.com/handbook/engineering/infrastructure/incident-management/#incident-manager-im) on-call rotation
What you will bring
Experience leading SaaS systems, Infrastructure, SRE, or similar teams
Experience leading software engineering teams
Strong technical background in a relevant field
Ability to deep dive into technical issues and translate this to understandable language relevant to an audience of varied technical abilities
Experience hiring, coaching, growing, and retaining Engineering talent
Deep technical understanding of running SaaS applications and infrastructure at scale
Experience leading a team on a large-scale consumer platform
Strong cross-functional collaboration skills
About the team
The Durability (https://handbook.gitlab.com/handbook/engineering/infrastructure-platforms/data-access/durability/) team serves as architects and thought partners on data access matters, also closing the loop between operational and development work. The team partners directly with Gitaly (https://handbook.gitlab.com/handbook/engineering/infrastructure-platforms/data-access/gitaly/) , and owns the Redis and Sidekiq setup as well as object storage, in operational aspects as well as developing interfaces and influencing access patterns. In addition, the team is responsible for developing and maintaining GitLab’s toolchain for backups and restores.
