Position Responsibilities:
Maintains a safe workplace by adhering to and supporting Amentum's SafeUp® program and all US Antarctic Program (USAP) safety policies, procedures, and requirements, ensuring safety remains the highest priority.
Operates shuttle service vehicles, including 11-14 passenger vans, Foremost Delta II with passenger compartment on varying road surfaces and in inclement weather conditions, prioritizing passenger safety.
Transports passengers and flight crew members to and from the airfield ramp, adhering to all airfield safety requirements.
Conducts and documents mechanical and fluid checks of shuttle vehicles before and during operations.
Completes all required shuttle and taxi logs accurately.
Communicates effectively via two-way radio, following prescribed procedures and radio etiquette.
Provides shuttle services to Scott Base and supports Long Duration Balloon (LDB) personnel transportation.
Offers on-call taxi services and monitors flight departure/arrival times to coordinate passenger transportation.
Performs bellhop duties for both incoming and outgoing flights.
Acts as a dispatcher when required, managing transportation tasking efficiently.
Interacts professionally and tactfully with NSF, military, and other agency officials both in person and via telephone.
Actively participates in safety briefings, Job Hazard Analyses, and workplace inspections.
Provides light vehicle training to personnel from other departments as needed.
Supports other departments with transportation-related tasks when necessary.
Demonstrates a positive and productive attitude when interacting with team members.
Performs additional duties as assigned.
Required Education, Experience, Certificates, and Licenses:
High School Diploma or GED.
Minimum of six months of experience in vehicle or equipment operations (e.g., shuttle or bus driving).
Expected Skills and Competencies:
Ability to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and overtime, in harsh outdoor environments.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Previous customer service experience.
Effective multi-tasking and organizational abilities.
Basic computer knowledge.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with dispatching operations.
Physical and/or Other Requirements:
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.
Successful completion of NSF-required medical and dental examinations.
Successful completion of employer-required drug screening and background checks.
Ability to pass a Federal Background Check required by the NSF.
Must possess a valid U.S. Driver's License.
Ability to lift and move items, parts, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum.
Willingness to perform physical tasks, including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of vehicles, and working outdoors in extreme cold conditions.
Participation in community programs such as "house-mouse" (chores), "daisy-picking" (station clean-up), recycling efforts, and safety initiatives.
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (U.S. Citizenship required).
