Amentum Disbursing Specialist in Antarctica
Position Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of detailed accounting duties in accordance with Antarctic Support Contract (ASC) operating policies and standard accounting procedures with minimal supervision and guidance
Provides a variety of cash disbursing functions to station residents and operations (retail, recreation, etc.)
Acts as the accounting point of contact between company employees on station and Financial Shared Services, Payroll and company headquarters
Handles employee inquiries in a timely manner
Performs data entry, spreadsheet work, and word processing with a high level of accuracy. Responsible for proofreading own work, correction of errors, and creation of final copy
Performs cashier function for station residents including travelers' cheque cashing and cash draws in accordance with company procedures
Provides accounting support to retail, recreation, chapel
Develops and maintains documentation and procedures related to control and protection of cash assets and disbursing operations
In accordance with established systems, maintains accurate and complete accounting files and records that detail financial transactions including daily cash journals, cash books, cash transfers, etc. Reviews and validates transactions for completeness, accuracy, and proper authorization.
Ensures clear and concise audit trails and documentation for all transactions
Prepares preliminary documentation and assists with major audits
Investigates and reports cash drawer errors.
Processes retail and recreation bank deposits
Oversees daily operations of Automated Teller Machine(s) including reconciliation, reporting, stocking, minor maintenance, and security
Delivers financial presentation at Station meetings as needed/requested
Will work with onsite HR to respond to general employee inquiries
Maintains timely and accurate communication with company headquarters. Prepares detailed and accurate financial reports of a confidential nature.
Provides expense report and time sheet training and support to contract and full-time staff in coordination with Program Business Manager.
Handles confidential matters (personnel actions, management reports, etc.) in accordance with management policy.
Employees and contractors may, in the course of performing their official duties, have access to a wide variety of personal identifiable and sensitive information (PII/SI) electronically and in hard copy. Personal and sensitive data including Social Security numbers, date and place of birth, demographic data, home addresses/telephone numbers/personal email addresses, passport numbers, bank account numbers, performance reviews, reviewer identity tied to performance reviews, unfunded proposals, proprietary parts of funded proposals, and other similar information should be protected according to Federal regulations and United States Antarctic Program policy, and only disclosed in accordance with the United States Antarctic program requirements.
Responsible for maintaining a safe workplace program and ensuring that safety is the highest priority in the workplace.
Performs other duties as required.
Required Education, Experience, Certificates and Licenses:
High School diploma or GED
Minimum four (4) years of experience in disbursing/banking (cash control)
Expected Skills and Competencies:
Responsibilities require a practical knowledge of cashier/banking procedures with the ability to oversee the accounting, storage, control, and transportation of large quantities of cash, as well as a practical and detailed knowledge of company accounts payable/payroll/expense report policies and procedures
Must maintain absolute confidentiality
Practical experience in accounting or bookkeeping
Practical knowledge of accounting procedures and principles
Computer literacy and ability to operate ten-key adding machine by touch
Must be proficient in Excel, with knowledge of Word
Extensive people interaction experience is necessary
Must be detail oriented and have strong organizational skills
Preferred:
Associate's degree in accounting or other formal accounting education
Strong banking/cash control experience
Physical and/or Other Requirements :
Willingness and ability to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods
Successful completion of Medical and Dental examinations required by the NSF for deployment to Antarctica
Successful completion of drug screening and background check required by employer
Successful completion of Federal Background Check required by the NSF
Must be willing and able to lift and move items, parts, assemblies, and equipment up to the safety regulation maximum as required by the position.
Must be willing and able to perform physical activities including heavy lifting, climbing in and out of equipment, crawling, and working outdoors in extreme cold as required by the position.
Must participate in community programs, such as “house-mouse” (chores), “daisy-picking” (cleaning-up around the station), recycling efforts & safety objectives.
Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
