Program Summary: DoD SkillBridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects, working closely with a mentor and senior company leadership to efficiently manage the flow of merchandise from our vendor's docks to the backrooms of NEX locations worldwide, while striving to improve service levels and drive down transportation and distribution costs. NEXCOM’s Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with NEXCOM. Salary: Service members participating in the VA SkillBridge program will continue to receive their DOD salary and benefits while engaging in this unpaid internship through the DoD SkillBridge Program for transitioning active-duty U.S. military personnel. Job Summary: The Distribution Operations Support Manager is responsible for providing technical training and expertise to ensure the efficient and effective operations of the distribution center or warehouse. This role involves overseeing the training and development of the distribution operations team ensuring they have the necessary knowledge and skills to perform their jobs effectively. Duties and Responsibilities: In this position, the Distribution Operations Support Manager plays a key role in developing and maintaining a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of a dynamic distribution environment. The focus is on training, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement to optimize operations, enhance employee performance, and contribute to the overall success of the Distribution Center. At the end of four months, the intern will be able to develop skills in logistics support and develop a good understanding of logistics support basics. Functional Areas of Internship focus will be as a follows: - Warehouse Operations Management Directs activities related to the receipt, inspection, ticketing, order picking, and storage of warehouse merchandise. Responsible for the clearance of merchandise through customs, if applicable. Controls merchandise from receipt in the warehouse until shipment and is accountable for the distribution or disposition of all receipts. - Consolidation and Shipping Coordination Arranges and coordinates the consolidation, packing, and shipping of merchandise from the warehouse to branch and location stores. - Quality Assurance and Order Accuracy Administers a quality assurance program to ensure the acceptance of the quantity and quality of merchandise ordered. Ensures the accuracy of orders shipped to NEX locations. Coordinates the return of damaged, incorrectly shipped, or unsellable items to vendors. - Workforce Planning and Supervision Plans and schedules work assignments and arranges for necessary equipment and personnel. Supervises and evaluates the performance of subordinate associates. Plans utilization of work areas to optimize efficiency. Recommends the selection, retention, reassignments, and promotion of associates. - Maintenance and Equipment Management Conducts regular inspections of equipment and work areas, following prescribed maintenance programs. Makes recommendations for repair or replacement of equipment as needed. Responsible for the management and safe operation of fleet vehicles, including equipment requirements, maintenance programs, and delivery schedules, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and DOD regulations. Reviews cost and performance data to assess motor vehicle fleet efficiencies and ensure compliance with established policies and procedures. - Fleet Maintenance and Compliance Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance and repair programs for motor vehicles. Determines maintenance and repair priorities and ensures that maintenance schedules are followed. Reviews and evaluates work-in-process and completed work to ensure compliance with established standards. Reviews and analyzes major component repairs and provides guidance as necessary. Ensures that daily inspections of fleet equipment are performed by operators, in compliance with federal, state, and DoD regulations. - Driver Safety and Training Coordinates training needs for personnel involved in the operation of distribution center motor vehicles, with an emphasis on safety and HAZMAT operations. Collects safe driving information and mileage facts for the National Safety Council to remain current on driver award programs. Inventory Management Supervises and participates in periodic and special inventories to ensure accuracy and accountability. - Training and Development Responsible for training associates and ensuring that all material handling equipment operators are properly licensed and have current physical examinations. Maintains up-to-date training records for each operator. - Reporting and Performance Analysis Assists in preparing operational reports consisting of statistical data to analyze and evaluate warehouse effectiveness. - Additional Duties Performs other related duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the Warehouse and Distribution Center. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed. TRAINING REQUIREMENT: Associate must receive Hazardous Material (HazMat) training within 90 days of hire per Department of Transportation regulations. Qualifications: Must meet all eligibility requirements outlined in DoD Instructions for Skill Bridge participation. Including the ability to participate in the apprenticeship program for no less than 120 days. Skill Bridge Intern will possess at minimum an Interim Secret Security Clearance; with the ability to receive a full Secret Security Clearance. Strong interpersonal and communication skills essential for team-based work assignments. Physical Requirements will vary and is dependent on the Program of Instruction Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction Seven years relevant experience in Navy Logistics that include: Five years of progressively responsible experience which provided a knowledge of distribution and warehouse management systems, and techniques; materiel handling practices and procedures; or experience in one or more areas of storage and distribution activities such as physical receipt, inspection, storage, stock rotation, stock levels and distribution flow to location sites; and exempt or nonexempt supervisory experience; or similar work which demonstrated the knowledge and abilities required to supervise in a distribution environment.
