Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic

Responsibilities:

  • Perform daily preventative and reactive maintenance tasks.

  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.

  • Follow all safety regulations.

  • Provide skilled mechanical support to all areas of production.

  • Conduct machine setup, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventative maintenance service.

  • Perform emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production.

  • Perform scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine downtime.

  • Set up machinery for scheduled production runs.

  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.

  • Respond to machine downtime promptly, determine causes of downtime.

  • Demonstrate skill in mechanical and electrical aptitude, understanding causes of breakdown.

  • Perform maintenance procedures routinely on a scheduled basis.

  • Assist operators in measurement process of system variability.

  • Monitor shafts for parallel, gap, and other measurements such as steam pressure and temperature.

  • Understand machine OEM specifications, preventative/predictive maintenance, and MP2 procedures.

  • Ensure quality coater supply, operation, and cleanliness.

  • Keep second floor inventory and workplace clean, organized, and safe.

  • Assist and train other maintenance and technical level employees.

  • Commit to 5S housekeeping and comply with all safe operating procedures and safety rules.

  • Perform other duties as required.

  • Willing to work any shift and overtime as required.

Work Hours:

  • Normal work hours are from 6:00/7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday, with the possibility of working other shifts as needed.

  • Ability to work Saturdays from 6:00 am to 11:00 am as needed.

  • Regular and punctual attendance required, with the ability to work overtime, including weekends.

Essential Skills:

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

  • Experience with bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics, levers, rigging, conveyors, cutters, blades, motors, couplings, gears, gearboxes, and air compressors.

  • Ability to read prints and work from documents.

  • Mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills.

  • Experience with preventive maintenance.

  • 3 to 5 years of proven experience in mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic fields.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

  • Problem-solving abilities to predict potential future repair requirements.

  • Efficient and cost-effective work habits.

  • Knowledge of TQM tools.

  • Ability to work well individually or in a team environment.

  • Strong communication skills, especially with line operators for repairs and troubleshooting.

  • Basic computer operation experience.

  • High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances.

  • Ability to climb in overhead structures, work beneath machines, and in close quarters.

  • High safety consciousness.

Work Environment:

  • The role is based in a manufacturing environment where industrial-sized rolls of brown paper are used to manufacture corrugated sheets of cardboard.

  • The machines bind the paper together with steam, regulated to specific temperatures.

  • The environment is loud, requiring ear protection, and during summer months, the facility can exceed 100 degrees, especially when working around boilers.

  • The main machine, the corrugator, runs continuously, while other machines may have downtime for maintenance.

  • Wear OSHA-approved personal protective equipment (PPE) where required by company policy or as dictated by safe practice.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $32.00
