LSI Solutions Mold Designer I (Days 8am to 5pm) in Victor, New York

POSITION TITLE: Mold Designer I (Days)
SHIFT HOURS: 8:00am to 5:00pm
LOCATION: Onsite at LSI Solutions in Victor, NY
SALARY RANGE: $60,000 - $80,000.00
JOB SUMMARY: The Mold Designer will support design, development, fabrication and evaluation of plastic injection molds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Tier I
Support the design of high-volume production, pilot production, and prototype plastic injection molds with the guidance of Senior Mold Designers and Molding Manager.
Produce detail drawings of plastic injection mold components.
Modify existing injection mold designs as needed.
Work with the machine shop to support the manufacture of new injection molds.
Design end of arm tooling for use with injection molding machine robotic equipment.
Tier II
Working knowledge of all essential functions listed above.
Work independently on the design of high-volume production, pilot production, and prototype plastic injection molds.
Evaluate new plastic part designs for moldability.
Specification and selection of stock components and materials for new injection mold designs.
Check drawings and models for accuracy and design intent.
Senior
Working knowledge of all essential functions listed above.
Evaluate and recommend new materials, processes and equipment.
Participate in troubleshooting of manufacturing problems.
Produce moldable part designs based on input from Discovery and Engineering concepts.
Design end of arm tooling and auxiliary equipment to support high volume unattended production.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
All other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Tier I
0-3 years mechanical design experience using 2D and 3D CAD systems required.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Tier II
3-10 years of mold design experience required.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Senior
10+ years of mold design experience or bachelor’s degree in science or technology field and 6 years’ experience or associates degree and 8 years’ experience required.
Experience with mold design, plastic design analysis tools, and design of experiments (DOE) and scientific molding practices required.
Experience with injection molding of medical device components required.
Experience with clean room injection molding required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Tier I
2D (AutoCAD) and 3D (Autodesk Inventor).
Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities.
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance Analysis.
Proficiency in standard office software including Word Processing, Spreadsheets, and working knowledge of the LSI ERP system.
Excellent documentation, planning and organizational skills.
Tier II
All the knowledge, skills, & abilities listed above.
Working knowledge of materials and injection molding fabrication methods.
Self-directed, well-organized with ability to manage multiple projects.
Senior
All of the knowledge, skills, & abilities listed above.
Various polymer materials experience (e.g., ABS, LCP, PETG, TPE, etc.) both virgin and with fillers.
Familiarity with insert molding, 2 shot molding processes and equipment, and microinjection molding preferred.
Knowledge of scientific molding and the fundamentals of creating an injection molding process.
Ability to create a mold manufacturing approach and lead a team of toolmakers through it.
Strong working knowledge of equipment used in the manufacture of plastic injection molds and their capabilities.
