Cleveland Clinic Manager Ambulatory Pharmacy in Vero Beach, Florida

Manages activities of the Pharmacy to provide outpatient services for patients of all ages. Directs daily operations of assigned store. Reviews and interprets all physician orders for processing. Maintains adequate supplies, appropriate levels of inventory, control and security of all drugs. Manages the personnel function.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises the activities of pharmacists and support staff assigned to the store; ensures accurate and timely preparation and processing of orders and computer operations.

  • Assumes responsibility for safe and accurate handling of all funds and records.

  • Reviews and interprets all physician's orders for processing, rationality, dosage form, allergies, interactions, incompatibilities, etc.; advises prescribing physician of inconsistencies and recommends alternate medications; determines proper quantities to be prepared/dispensed.

  • Provides drug information to physicians, nurses, patients, and other appropriate individuals by consulting with physicians regarding any and all drug therapy requested; clarifies physician orders and assists physicians in investigating new and alternate medications to be used; performs drug information research as needed; participates in drug studies and research.

  • Instructs patients regarding individual mediation therapy.

  • Enters patient and medication order information into pharmacy computers to facilitate medication dispensing, and utilizing computer as a drug information resource.

  • Coordinates the third-party prescription process by ensuring accuracy of information to include patient name, physician provider numbers, product name or NDC number, directions, directed daily usage and corresponding quantities.

  • Supervises personnel functions and analyzes work flow and adjusts scheduling as needed.

  • For specialty pharmacy: develops clinical documentation standards as required by URAC and other internal and external regulatory groups and customers.

  • Develops integrated team and individual goals tied to overall specialty pharmacy goals.

  • Adheres to direct report payroll budget and other budget areas defined by Senior Director.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Pharmacy from a university accredited by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy.

  • Graduate degree such as MS, MBA, PharmD preferred.

Certifications:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh) or eligible for reciprocation in current state within 90 days of hire.

  • Board certification (BCACP/BCPS) and/or residency training preferred.

  • For Managers in the Retail Pharmacy setting: Completion of a board of pharmacy approved course in the administration of immunizations required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA), American Red Cross or approved by the Florida Board of Pharmacy.

Complexity of Work:

  • Within the scope of the job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

Work Experience:

  • Completion of a Health-system Pharmacy Administration and Leadership (HSPAL) PGY2 Residency or

  • Minimum of 4 years relevant pharmacy experience, including at least 1 year of leadership experience.

Physical Requirements:

  • Typical physical demands include a high degree of dexterity sufficient to operate a personal computer in the course of the work, normal or corrected vision, extensive sitting and frequent walking.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
