Health Educator Consultant (Healthy Homes)

Your Specific Responsibilities

Professional environmental public health work, under general supervision of an Environmental Administrator, conducting public health education and outreach; healthy homes assessments; reviewing preparing reports, correspondence, consulting with environmental health staff on legal notices; data entry and analysis; or other comparable environmental health work. Refer and/or connect resources to affected individuals and maintain a network of environmental Health, Public Health, or applicant team members for the Healthy Homes Program by home visitations and inspections.

This position requires strategic and critical thinking and close attention to detail to support public health programs, and the ability to communicate effectively and frequently with a wide variety of audiences, including peers and community members.

  • Support, assist, and facilitate Healthy Homes and public health programs and initiatives within the agency and the community.

  • Coordinate Healthy Homes program to include performing assessments and compiling data. Participate in internal committees, and work groups as assigned to support public health programs and initiatives. Address health inequities through public health interventions that are evidence-based. Provide materials and support as requested to assist with trainings, workshops and education.

  • Develop and deliver health messages to the public on topics such as built environment and community health. Assist in deployment of employee wellness program for internal and external partners. Develop training materials and programs to educate and inform internal and external partners. Facilitate presentations as needed/requested. Research and follow current trends and ongoing changes in public health interests and needs in order to provide the most accurate and prevailing approaches and strategies.

  • Serves as a backup position to the Personal Liaison when necessary.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good working knowledge of principles and objectives of public health programs

  • Good working knowledge of environment and public health regulations

  • Knowledge of communicable diseases and understanding of epidemiological concepts

  • Some knowledge of health education and/or outreach

  • Ability to establish effective positive working relationships with all customers

  • Ability to work outside in extreme weather conditions

  • Ability to instruct the public at all levels in a tactful and courteous manner

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to use personal computers and various software programs

  • Ability to drive a motor vehicle, valid Florida Operator's license to perform inspections

  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments

  • Ability to use good judgement when problem solving

  • Ability to work independently

  • Ability to make educational and informational presentations

    Qualifications:

    Minimum-

  • Current Florida Department of Health employee

  • Valid Driver’s License to perform inspections

  • Must be able to type 35 WPM NET-A typing test will be given prior to interview being granted.

  • Must have the ability to edit databases.

  • Florida Department of Health is required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
