Job Title: Assistant Aquatics Program Manager *This position may be filled as a career mobility Location: Vernal,Dutch John,Flaming Gorge Job Description: The Utah Division of Wildlife (DWR) Northeastern Region seeks an Assistant Aquatics Program Manager. This Assistant Manager will coordinate Lake Trout and Kokanee Salmon management on Flaming Gorge Reservoir in partnership with Wyoming Game and Fish and lead the management of the Green River tailwater trout fishery. In addition,this position will assist with management of several smaller lentic fisheries on the North Slope of the Uinta Mountains. This position will supervise and mentor entry level fisheries biologists. The duty station for this position is flexible and can be located in Vernal,Utah or in the town of Dutch John,Utah. If you choose to work from the Dutch John area,DWR does have an option for housing close to the office. - Coordinate and lead fish population and angler surveys on two high-profile Blue-Ribbon fisheries in the northeastern region (Flaming Gorge Reservoir and Green River).
- Analyze fish population and angler data to assess fishery management needs,develop management objectives,identify research needs,and prescribe regulation changes.
- Represent UDWR during interagency coordination and planning meetings with Wyoming Game and Fish regarding the management of the Flaming Gorge fishery.
- Supervise and mentor wildlife biologist II positions on the regional aquatic sportfish team.
- Direct field surveys on several lentic fisheries as well as provide guidance and recommendations for management and regulation of these waters.
- Prepare written reports to effectively communicate biological information with administrators,biologists,and members of the public.
- Plan and develop funding proposals for a wide variety of projects around Flaming Gorge and other regional areas.
- Work with regional supervisors,program coordinators,state and federal partners,and other stakeholders to coordinate management activities.
- Assist with other sportfish and native fish program tasks throughout the region (stream surveys,restoration treatments,native fish & amphibian surveys).
Ideal Candidate:
- Master s degree or enrolled in a Master s degree program in fisheries biology,natural resources,or closely related field.
- Professional experience with standard fisheries sampling techniques used to survey North American freshwater fish.
- Professional experience and proficiency in analyzing and interpreting fisheries data.
- Supervisory and mentorship experience and the ability to work cooperatively with others.
- Ability to communicate effectively in writing and speech in agency and public settings.
