Position Objective:
This position is responsible for performing inspections of Metro-North’s stations and facilities to identify items and conditions that require repair or maintenance to keep Metro-North Railroad stations and facilities in good repair.
Responsibilities:
Perform daily inspections of Metro-North’s stations and facilities on a cyclical basis .
Prepare and submit detailed reports and photographs of inspections and findings daily.
Generate material and equipment lists to be used by maintenance forces to accomplish required tasks .
Maintain a database of observed defects and repairs to be utilized for creating task orders and monitoring repairs.
Required Qualifications:
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Basic understanding of carpentry, masonry, sheet metal , electrical , and plumbing fundamentals and ability to recognize defects in the same.
Basic knowledge of structural components commonly found in stations or similar structures.
Ability to take accurate measurements.
Ability to work in varied railroad environments (i.e., rights-of-way , platforms, confined spaces, etc) and varied tours of duty.
Must be self-motivated and able to work independently and with little supervision.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Knowledgeable of MS Office Suite (Word, Access, Excel) or comparable applications.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Required Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree in Engineering or related field. Demonstrated equivalent experience, education , and/or technical credentials may be considered in place of a degree to include 2 additional years of related experience.
Minimum one (1) year experience in building maintenance or building maintenance programs, construction, or related field.
The Following is/are preferred , but other satisfactory combinations of relevant experience, education, and/or technical credentials will be considered:
3+ years experience in building maintenance, construction , or related fields

This position is safety-sensitive and subject to toxicological testing.
According to the New York State Public Officers Law & the MTA Code of Ethics, all employees who hold a policymaking position must file an Annual Statement of Financial Disclosure (FDS) with the NYS Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government (the “Commission”).
Employees driving company vehicles must complete defensive driver training once every three years for current MNR drivers; or within 180 days of hire or transfer for an employee entering an authorized driving position.
