MTA Long Island Rail Road Deputy General Manager in Various, New York
Deputy General Manager-Operations Engineering. This position is responsible for directing the ongoing activities of the equipment engineering function for the existing LIRR rail car fleet, which includes mechanical, electrical and electronic engineering activities.
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Direct and coordinate the equipment engineering functions (mechanical, electrical, electronic) in support of all ongoing rail car and locomotive maintenance activities and modification programs.
Provide direction to subordinate staff in developing equipment maintenance procedures, inspection criteria, and running repair activities consistent with the needs of passenger service as well as FRA regulations.
Properly develop, modify and document all equipment engineering recommendations through maintenance instruction letters and equipment change orders.
Serve as a senior staff member of the MofE Department. Ensures department/company policies are administered in a fair and equitable manner.
Select, develop and motivate personnel within the department. Provide career development for subordinates. Provide prompt and effective coaching and counseling. Responsible for discipline/termination of employees when necessary. Review direct reports and approve performance appraisals. Promote safe work practices and provide safe working conditions. Create a professional environment that respects individual differences and enables all employees to develop and contribute to their full potential.
Ensure a safe working environment and adherence to guidelines of company safety policies and procedures. Lead by example.
Perform other assignments as requested by Senior Management.
Qualifications
A)
Bachelors degree in engineering (Mechanical/Electrical/Industrial). In lieu of degree candidates with 14 years of related rail engineering experience. Experience may be considered. Must possess 10 years progressively responsible rail engineering experience. Must have extensive knowledge of rail car equipment and components. Must have working experience on equipment design, preventive maintenance program planning and technical services. Must have general knowledge of labor agreements concerning shop and field activities. Must have sound administrative background as well as implementing and administering company policies and procedures. Working knowledge of relevant FRA/AAR Rules and Procedures. Must be able to demonstrate effective communication skills (oral/written/interpersonal) as well as demonstrated sound judgement skills with a high level of integrity and proven leadership, management capabilities. Incumbent may have equivalent work experience of a minimum 15 year progressively responsible rail engineering experience may be considered in lieu of a degree, subject to approval.
B)
A PE license is preferred
