Empire State University is seeking an Assistant/Associate Professor of Special Education in our School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. The successful candidate will have expertise in special education, and curriculum and instruction with knowledge of learning standards across content areas such as Math, Science, and English Language Arts. The ideal candidate should expect to develop and teach coursework and mentor students across the university.

The selected candidate will teach, develop curriculum, and mentor students online with some in-person advisement of teacher candidates required. Central to the faculty role is helping students from diverse cultural backgrounds complete degrees that meet their personal and professional goals.

Working in cooperation with local and statewide faculty and staff, the successful candidate will provide high-quality educational services to students, engage in an active scholarly agenda, participate in university governance, and enhance the university's reputation within the community.

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • An earned doctorate from a regionally accredited U.S. university or comparable non-U.S. university.

  • Minimum 3 years of classroom teaching experience.

  • Teacher certification in P-12 Special Education.

  • College or university level teaching experience.

  • Experience with supporting diverse populations.

  • Ability to work in a dispersed faculty environment.

  • Demonstrated expertise in learning standards and curriculum development in special education.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with teaching and mentoring in online learning environments.

  • Experience with academic program development.

  • Relevant industry and/or field experience.

  • Bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English.

  • Experience working with paraprofessionals in school settings.

  • Experience observing student teachers in their placements.

  • Experience with Teacher Performance Assessment.

Special Information:

  • Occasional travel will be required to fulfill university-wide commitments.

  • Office hours will vary to accommodate student needs.

  • Some evening and/or weekend engagement with students is required.

  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the U.S. on a full-time basis.

Rank/Salary: Tenure-track, assistant/associate professor, appointment and salary to commensurate with experience and qualifications.
