Thompson Metal Fab Quality Control Inspector (Experienced) in Vancouver, Washington

The Pacific Northwest's premier steel fabricator, Thompson Metal Fab, Inc., is in immediate need of a skilled and experienced Quality Control Inspector.  Serving the Civil, Hydro, Oil & Gas, and custom fabrication industries.  We are an AISC, API, ASME, and WABO certified facility.  With over 85 years in the industry, we have a reputation for producing some of the highest quality fabricated products on the West Coast.

Competitive wages start ranging between $40.00 and $50.00 an hour, with opportunity for advancement.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

All employees must pass a pre-employment drug screen and pre-employment physical.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct inspections of welded steel components throughout the fabrication process to ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform visual inspections of welds, including surface preparation, joint fit-up, and welding parameters, to verify conformance to applicable codes and standards.
  • Utilize ultrasonic testing equipment to evaluate welded materials accurately, identifying any potential defects or inconsistencies.
  • Interpret ultrasonic test results and document findings in detailed inspection reports.
  • Collaborate with welding personnel, fabricators, and project managers to address any issues identified during inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented. Must be adaptable to changes in work environment, able to manage competing demands, and be able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or other unexpected events.
  • Maintain accurate records of inspections, test results, and relevant documentation in accordance with established quality control procedures and/or customer requirements.
  • Provide guidance and training to welding personnel on quality control practices, welding techniques, and inspection procedures.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, advancements in inspection technology, and changes in codes and standards relevant to welding and steel fabrication.
  • Performs other duties as required.

     

REQUIREMENTS: KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EDCUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years of experience working as QC Inspector in the metal fabrication industry [Required].
  • 3+ years of experience inspecting bridge fabrications [Required].
  • Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) issued by the American Welding Society (AWS) [Required].
  • NDE certifications: MT, PT, UT Level II (per ASNT-TC-1A) [Preferred].
  • AMPP Coating Inspector Program certification, formerly NACE CIP level 1 or 2 [Preferred].
  • Knowledge of WPS/PQR generation in accordance with ASME, AWS D1.1, and AWS D1.5.
  • Strong understanding of welding processes, techniques, and quality control standards.
  • Proficiency in interpreting technical drawings, welding symbols, and specifications.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate inspection findings and recommendations.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to upholding the highest standards of quality and safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines as required by project schedules.
