Microsoft Corporation Senior Software Engineer in Vancouver, British Columbia

Do you have a passion for engineering and a talent for solving complex problems in production systems? Do you want to work on the Linux Operating System (OS) platforms that power Azure, LinkedIn, and on-premises/bare metal solutions? The Linux Platform Group (LPG) within Core OS is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer who can handle live site operations and ensure the quality, smooth deployment, and operation of the OS underlying the Azure platform. The team is responsible for ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of the Operating System (OS) platform that supports core services such as Azure Boost, Nexus, AKS, and more. As a member of this team, you will have the opportunity to design and implement solutions that improve the Operating System (OS) platform and deliver value to our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop new automation solutions for incident analysis and hands-off mitigation.

  • Rotation in a live site operations team with a 25% load of on-call duties (split between a primary and a backup role) supporting Redmond daytime hours, 8:00 AM - 9:00PM PST.

  • Collect and analyze data on various metrics to identify key areas to invest in engineering opportunities.

  • Investigate, diagnose, and mitigate key issues impacting the Operating System (OS) platform.

  • Support other engineers and assist them in ramping up and resolving challenging issues.

  • Shifting rotation will occasionally have weekend on-call requirements but will be offset with weekday time off.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation & enhance TSG (Technical support Guide)/Playbook

  • Drive training and mentoring of other support engineer to enhance technical skills.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

  • OR equivalent experience.

  • 3+ years of experience supporting production systems in a live site model

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security sceenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check:This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge in Linux internals and basic knowledge in Linux kernels.

  • Proficiency in troubleshooting complex technical issues and providing solutions.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience working with distributed systems in a cloud environment.

  • Passionate in support of customers with a commitment to delivering reliable service.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with external teams (open source, standards, and/or partners)

  • Technical passion, terrific problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across Canada is CAD $108,100 - CAD $199,700 per year.
