Aston Carter Accountant in Vancouver, British Columbia

Job Title: AccountantJob Description

Starting as a 6-month contract with a strong potential to extend to a permanent role, this position primarily involves bank reconciliations, statement preparation, and journal entries. The role also includes program accounting and revenue/expense allocations to programs, preparation of working papers using Excel and Power Query, and ad hoc projects based on capacity and skill level.

Responsibilities

  • Perform bank reconciliations and prepare financial statements

  • Create and manage journal entries

  • Handle program accounting and revenue/expense allocations

  • Prepare working papers using Excel and Power Query

  • Participate in ad hoc projects as assigned

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years’ experience in bank reconciliations, financial statement preparation & analysis, and journal entries

  • Strong Excel capabilities

  • Experience with multi-currency transactions

  • Strong computer skills for navigating various systems and network drives

  • Interest in or currently pursuing CPA designation

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with NetSuite

  • Accounting designation preferred (CPA, ACCA, etc.)

  • Ability to work with large volumes of information using Power Query

  • Quick learner with the ability to see the bigger picture

  • Proactive and able to identify and address issues independently

  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Collaborative team player who can also work independently

  • Adaptable to regular change

  • Willingness to learn and challenge the status quo

Work Environment

Our organization is a boutique financial institution with offices in Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal, operating in the Canadian marketplace for over 35 years. The team is very close-knit, transparent, social, and outgoing, working collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. This hybrid role requires working in the downtown office, which is transit accessible, two times per week with the flexibility to work from home during the rest of the week. The role supports the entire department and offers exposure to large-scale organizational change and transformation. Our company is committed to growth, with multiple transformational projects in the pipeline and a strong emphasis on innovation and automation. We also provide CPA support, covering coursework and dues.
