WM Data Specialist - Customer Service Representative in Van Nuys, California

Schedule: Mon-Fri 8:00AM to 5:00PM, Lunch 12:00-1:00pm, and every other Saturday 8:00AM to 12:00PM

This position provides data analytics and customer service for services of waste, organics, manure, and recycling services in the City of Los Angeles (LA) in the West Valley and Southeast Valley zones. Emphasis will be on researching proof of service and running daily reports. You will also provide customer service, handle service issues, work with internal departments within Waste Management and assist with payments along with other financial tasks. Will be responsible for basic upkeep of office space, ensuring office is stocked, and other duties as assigned.

Strong customer service skills, computer skills, and experience with MS Office Suite are required to be successful in this role.

Representatives filling this position will serve as a company representative in the City of LA West Valley and Southeast Valley zones

II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.

  • Fully understand the rate structure of the City of LA contract to assist customers and answer any questions or concerns. Knowledge of conducting site surveys and waste audits to determine trash, organics, manure and recycling service levels and making recommendations on size and location of bins.

  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of contract obligations, included but not limited to pricing, diversion, reporting and operations.

  • Creates, distributes, and closes-out customer tickets daily.

  • Assists with the processing of payments, including but not limited to cash, checks and credit cards, and perform other financial tasks as necessary.

  • Communicates with customers about service issues and works with internal departments for resolution.

  • Uses Waste Management programs and software tools to manage a variety of tasks, such as price and service changes, ticket requests, set up accounts, run reports, tracking and various other needed assignments.

  • Utilizes effective listening and communication skills to identify problems, needs, and opportunities

  • Regular evening and weekend work hours may be required

  • Additional duties as necessary

A. Education and Experience

  • Education: High school diploma or GED (accredited)

  • Experience: 1 year of work experience that includes aspects of customer service and interaction (in addition to education requirement)

C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required

Strong organizational, customer service, writing and communication skills

The expected salary range for this position is $23.00 per hour. The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for incentive pay.
