A Brief Summary of This Position:

Valmont is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual for an internship position in the Agriculture Division’s Software Engineering Department. We are looking for a highly driven individual that will be responsible for assisting with projects involving our data center operations and enterprise systems application support.

Valmont’s internship program mission is to provide a hands-on learning experience through project work, leadership development, job shadowing and interaction with senior leadership.

Essential Functions:

• This position reports to the Director, Software Engineering and has no direct reports or indirect reports

• This role requires no travel

• Flexible schedule however must be able to work in the office 3 days per week (T, W and T)

• Mobile Application Development:

• Assist in designing, developing, and testing mobile applications for Android and/or iOS platforms.

• Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code using languages like Java, Kotlin, Swift, or Dart (Flutter).

• Collaboration:

• Work closely with product managers, UX/UI designers, and senior developers to understand project requirements.

• Participate in agile development processes, including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and code reviews.

• Debugging and Troubleshooting:

• Identify, analyze, and fix bugs to improve application performance and user experience.

• Perform unit and integration testing to ensure code quality.

• API Integration:

• Work with RESTful APIs and third-party libraries for data handling and feature implementation.

• Documentation:

• Maintain technical documentation for developed features, codebases, and project workflows.

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or related field.

• Proficiency in mobile development languages (Java/Kotlin for Android, Swift/Objective-C for iOS).

• Basic understanding of mobile app architecture (MVC, MVVM, Clean Architecture).

• Familiarity with Git for version control.

• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.

• Ability to debug and solve technical issues effectively.

• Good written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical team members.

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:

• Experience with cross-platform frameworks like Flutter or React Native.

• Knowledge of mobile UI/UX design principles and best practices.

• Familiarity with cloud platforms (Firebase, AWS, or Azure) for mobile app backends.

• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines for mobile app deployment.

• Exposure to Agile/Scrum methodologies.

• Personal or academic projects showcasing mobile app development.

Working Environment and Physical Efforts:

Work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent is regularly required to sit for extended periods of time, as well as talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. No travel requirements for this position. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with various files and forms and while working on the computer. The employee is occasionally required to move about the office. Incumbent must utilize proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrists rests. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds in working with large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
