Position Overview:

The Infusion Nurse (IN) has primary accountability for patient outcomes. IN is responsible for administration of chemotherapeutic agents, blood products and other pharmaceuticals; patient education and care of patients receiving infusion; provides coverage, as needed, for the other departments in the Cancer Center; and participates in performance improvement studies at the Cancer Center. This position may serve as a resource person for hospital personnel, patients and their families, and all other related entities in all aspects of Infusion Therapy. IN coordinates patient care across all disciplines, in collaboration with the medical staff.

The Infusion Nurse functions within the scope of licensure, implements the nursing process to include the following: assess patient and family needs; develop a plan of care based on assessment; coordinate or perform implementation of the plan of care; and review and evaluate the effectiveness.

The Infusion Nurse ensures the physiological, psychosocial, safety, learning, rehabilitative, spiritual, cultural and self-care needs of patients and their families are met.

Job Description :

EDUCATION:

  • Associate degree in nursing.

  • BSN preferred.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

  • RN-Registered Nurse for the state where care is provided

  • BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

DEPARTMENT REQUIRED CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

  • ONS/ONCC-Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Certificate within 6 months

  • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse) preferred

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

  • 2 years of recent relevant experience in oncology and/or medical - surgical units

  • Prior experience in performance improvements, nursing committee's participation preferred.

  • Current experience in giving chemotherapy preferred.

  • Demonstrated clinical competency in caring/maintaining Vascular Access Devices (VADs) preferred.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Demonstrated general knowledge and competence with regard to nursing theories, concepts and practices; medical terminology; anatomy; and physiology.

  • Working knowledge of the healthcare industry, safety precaution policies, best practices regarding patient care and privacy, and changes in local/state/federal regulations.

  • Possess written and verbal communications skills to explain sensitive information clearly and professionally to diverse audiences, including non-medical people.

  • Time management and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize patient care, assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and practices to achieve objectives and meet time sensitive activities.

  • Basic knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Outlook).

  • Work independently as well as be part of the team, while accomplishing multiple interventions in an ever-changing environment.

  • Ability to communicate and engage team members, patients and families in a variety of stressful situations.

  • Use existing procedures and critical thinking to identify and solve routine or complex problems.

  • Ensure the privacy of each patient’s protected health information (PHI).

  • Build collaborative relationships with peers and other healthcare providers to achieve departmental and corporate objectives.

  • Prioritize assignments and work within standardized policies, procedures, and scientific methods to achieve objectives and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated competency in the fundamentals of nursing and pharmacology are highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of outpatient infusion clinical practices is preferred.

  • Attends Oncology related programs, earning at least 10 CEUs per year preferred

  • Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested preferred.

Pay Range is $69.36 to $92.81 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs. Base pay is just one piece of the total rewards program offered by Sutter Health. Eligible roles also qualify for a comprehensive benefits package.
