SUNY Westchester Community College Adjunct Counselor- Admissions in Valhalla, New York

Under the general supervision of the Director of Admissions, the Adjunct Counselor-Admissions works with prospective students, parents, and guidance counselors to inform them of educational and vocational programs offered by SUNY Westchester Community College. This position serves to reach out to the community by visiting area high schools, community groups, and organizations, in order to meet with prospective students both individually and in groups to disseminate information about our college programs. The Adjunct Counselor organizes visits of students to the college, organizes and conducts campus tours, conducts information sessions, assists in coordinating and participates in on-campus events such as Open House, etc. and makes presentations regarding college courses and programs in order to encourage prospective students to consider WCC as a post- secondary institution. Additionally, they also perform a variety of projects assigned by the Director of Admissions.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: An Adjunct Counselor must have one of the following:

  • A Master's and Bachelor's degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or closely related field and one (1) year of professional experience.

  • A Bachelor's degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or closely related field and three (3) years of experience.

  • A Bachelor's degree in a non-specific field and two (2) years of experience, along with a Master's degree in Guidance Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, or closely related field.

The successful candidate must possess knowledge of college courses & programs and technology as it relates to recruitment efforts (e.g.: databases, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.) The successful candidate must also be able to relate to students of traditional college age as well as non-traditional students of various ages and diverse educational and socio-economic backgrounds. The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing is required.

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and evidence of equity-minded practice in all college policies, practices, and personnel.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Communicating effectively in Spanish is strongly preferred.

Additional Information:

WORK SCHEDULE: The work hours will vary, up to 28 hours per week. Evening and weekend hours will be required.

POSITION EFFECTIVE: The position will remain open until filled.

HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $45.32 per hour. No benefits. This position is contingent on budget and an annual renewal. It is subject to be approved on an annual basis.
