Department Summary
The staff in the
Office of Professional Education Services
(PES) fulfill a variety of support roles in the college related to educator preparation and accreditation, and we work regularly with both internal and external stakeholders to accomplish these goals. We work with school districts across the country to place our students in education settings with a high-quality mentor teacher and provide regular professional development opportunities to school systems, alumni, and teachers. In addition, we work with the Georgia Professional Standards Commission ( GaPSC ) to process educator certification both for new teacher candidates and recent graduates. We also work with the GaPSC and other reporting entities to ensure we provide high-quality programs for our students that meet state and national standards. Some internal stakeholders include our faculty and staff in the university for whom we provide assessment support and admission guidance as well as other supporting roles. And, finally, we work with our students to provide them with the tools to become successful educators in our community.
Typical Allocation of Duties:
Accomplish department/unit objectives - 25% Direct the human, financial, and other resources needed to accomplish objectives of the department or unit.
Monitor and establish processes - 20% Monitor and establish processes to ensure effectiveness, efficiency, and alignment with University and department goals.
Direct operations - 20% Direct the operations of the department or unit.
Area Representative - 15% Represent the department or unit to internal and external groups and individuals.
Manage budget - 10% Manage the department/unit budget.
Compliance - 10% Ensure commitment to and compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and standards.
Supervisor Expectations:
Ensure the department's goals align with the strategic objectives of the College of Education and Human Services (COEHS) and the university.
Develop and communicate a clear vision for PES that supports educator preparation and accreditation
Collaborate effectively with the Educator Preparation Programs (EPP) to provide assessment, admission, and placement
Build and maintain partnerships with school districts, alumni, and professional organizations to support the EPP.
Ensure transparent and consistent communication with internal and external stakeholders about PES initiatives, progress, and outcomes.
Ensure accurate and timely collection and analysis of data from internal and external stakeholders to meet accreditation and reporting requirements.
Liaise on behalf of the EPP with the GaPSC
Foster the professional growth of PES staff through training, mentorship, and performance feedback.
Provide consistent, accurate updates to the Dean about PES operations, challenges, and achievements.
