Summary of Role:As Lead of Cloud Cost Engineering, you will be responsible for establishing a FinOps engineering practice to provide centralized cost management and optimization for Global Foundries global public cloud infrastructure. You will work with Cloud Architecture and Engineering to enable the GF’s rapidly growing cloud environment with a focus on our High-Performance Compute workflows. You will report on cost trends, track anomalies in usage to a granular level, and help allocate cost components to business units and product lines. You will implement and maintain FinOps practices and methodologies, focusing on analyzing cloud usage and spending data to identify areas for cost optimization. Using a data driven approach you will leverage automation to enable the efficient scalability of our public cloud environments. You will help establish the Cloud Operations team’s SRE and CI/CD capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of cost optimization best practices in the AWS ecosystem and experience in SRE and cloud native software development. A background in Cloud Solutions Delivery, Cloud Architecture, or cloud native software development is strongly preferred.Essential Responsibilities:
Collaborate with Solution Owners and Engineering: Track and monitor cost optimization initiatives, ensuring key initiative assumptions are accurate and applicable infrastructure efficiencies are incorporated into the forecast.
Mature the Cloud Ops capabilities: Help build the Cloud Ops organization based on SRE practices.
Partner with Engineering and Architecture: Influence system design to improve efficiency.
Monitor Cloud Expenses: Identify cost-saving opportunities, such as unused or underutilized resources in AWS for all cloud-hosted products.
Analyze Cloud Data: Identify cost optimization and usage opportunities and create specific recommendations; review those recommendations with engineering and business stakeholders.
Monitor and Report Usage: Track cloud usage against budget and forecast, explore trends in cloud spend, and focus on the root cause of cloud resource cost increases on a daily/weekly/monthly basis.
Create Reports and Dashboards: Develop reports, dashboards, and alerts to track spending and usage trends and the potential impact of cost optimizations. Present regular updates to senior leadership.
Partner with Cloud Providers: Maintain relationships and broker agreements with cloud providers to optimize infrastructure spend.
Implement and Maintain FinOps Practices: Assist in implementing, maintaining, and governing FinOps with a focus on data pipeline optimization and accuracy.
Other Responsibilities:Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
Required Qualifications:
5+ years in managing cloud environments, budgets, forecasts, and implementing financial controls.
7+ years in cloud native software development, platform engineering, or cloud solutions delivery.
Experience with FinOps, including cloud cost and financial model forecasting and cloud cost optimization strategies
Preferred Qualifications:Cost Modeling and Analysis:
Ability to analyze cloud usage and identify cost-saving opportunities
Understanding of cost allocation and chargeback models
SRE Expertise:
Deep understanding of SRE principles, including SLOs, SLAs, and error budgets.
Proficiency in SRE tools like Splunk, Prometheus, Grafana, and Alertmanager
Experience with automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Bash, Ruby)
Cloud Engineering:
Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation)
Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes)
Software Engineering:
Proficiency in programming languages (Python, Java, Go, etc.)
Experience with software development methodologies (Agile, DevOps)
Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD)
Expected Salary Range
$103,000.00 - $194,200.00
The exact Salary will be determined based on qualifications, experience and location.
