    Position Summary:

    The Safety Specialist is responsible for safety related activities to ensure a safe environment for employees, patients, and visitors while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory and accreditation agencies. The Safety Specialist will conduct safety (Environment of Care) rounds to monitor the physical environment, communicate safety issues with Mobile Health Service Manager, and work to provide solutions with correcting those issues. The Safety Specialist will develop, review, and participate in safety training, present safety in-services, conduct safety surveys, conduct fire drills and appropriate emergency preparedness drills, monitor safety related accidents and conduct follow up investigations in conjunction with the Mobile Health Service Manager. The Safety Specialist is also responsible for being a primary driver for the Mobile Units in McLean County, will assist with driving in all other counties Mobile Service has operations in, and will oversee the driving records of the other mobile unit drivers to ensure that the vehicle is safely operated by a qualified and licensed driver. The Safety Specialist will also participate and assist with maintenance and upkeep on the Mobile Health Clinic vehicle. The Safety Specialist is an integral part of the Mobile Services team and will assist with patient care as staffing requires such as Patient Service Representative (PSR) and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) services. Once properly trained as a PSR and CMA, this position will coordinate and participate in a variety of duties associated with daily clinic preparation process, patient check in/out, charge posting, patient appointment scheduling, and direct patient care. This employee also maintains department patient care supplies, ensures timely flow of patients, and assists the healthcare team to provide optimal care to patients and families. Conveys a positive image and provides information to ensure patient's needs are met.

    Qualifications:

    EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS Associate's Degree in Related Field CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS Driver's License upon hire and CDL Driver's License within 3 months and CDL Air Brake Endorsement within 3 months and Medical Examiner's Certification within 3 months and Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the following certification bodies: National Health Career Association (NHA), National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), American Medical Technologists (AMT), American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), Nationa Center for Competency Testing (NCCT), American Allied Health (AAH), or The American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA) within 1 year or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the following certification bodies: American Medical Technologies (AMT) or the American Registry of Medical Assistants (ARMA). In addition, this certification requires: Successful completion of a Registered/Certified Medical Assistant (RMA/CMA) program or equivalent within 1 year. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Type of experience (i.e. related field, healthcare, nursing, insurance, etc): Safety Officer, Emergency Preparedness, CDL Driver Class B, Medical Assistant, Mobile Services.     SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of safety related codes and standards of state and federal regulatory agencies with regards to healthcare safety issues and accident/incident investigation. Ability to prepare reports and statistical analysis. Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with staff members, regulatory agencies, and officials when conducting safety inspections, code review, and presenting training programs to employees. Organized, responsive, and dependable. Culturally competent and caring demeanor. Strong communication (written and verbal); observes high standard of confidentiality; ability to deal with a large volume of calls and multiple tasks concurrently; memory for details; ability to prioritize and complete tasks under stressful conditions with interruptions; is creative, innovative, problem-solver and effective at leading change.     Essential Functions:

  • Maintains ability to drive all Mobile Health Service vehicles safely to and from operational locations, fairs, events, maintenance locations, etc.

  • Maintains all Mobile Health Service Vehicles in all counties and performs vehicle checks and logs, safety stickers, emissions, license plate registration, and insurance cards.

  • Responsible for keeping all vehicles cleaned and serviced, up to date with maintenance and inspections, schedules all needed maintenance and ensures completion. Also maintains knowledge of current and applicable federal and state laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.

  • Conducts regular fire safety and other hazard/emergency surveys of the mobile setting and ensures compliance with all applicable safety measures.

  • Administer medications per the provider order. Administration of immunizations, PPD testing, nebulizer treatments, oral medication administration to patients age 0-150.

  • Provide specialized technical support in annual audits, surveys, periodic evaluations of work environments to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

  • Maintain all competencies associated with an ambulatory CMA role, as well as, Mobile Health Clinic specific duties and responsibilities.

  • Conducts analysis of incident date for cause and hazards to health for use by the Safety Committee, Risk Management, and outside agencies.

  • Rooming patients, collecting pertinent information during check in and/or assessment, and complete telephone interactions as directed which include but are not limited to:patients, families, pharmacies, and/or other health care facilities.

  • Develops, reviews, and implements training programs in environmental safety for all employees of Mobile Health Services (in all counties Mobile Services operates) and assists in the review of safe work practices and department specific safety policies.

  • Competent and proficient with coverage and rules that apply to eligibility, network coverage, and benefits. This would include all other competencies specific to an Ambulatory PSR role.

  • Provides the needed education to all employees of Mobile Health Services that will ensure safety on the Mobile Health units during regular operational days.

  • Provides administrative assistance to the Mobile Health Service Manager including but not limited to assisting with telephone calls, insurance/billing, and scheduling.

  • Assist with physical forms, DME forms as assigned, follow up phone calls, patient records, and any office procedures such as obtaining vital signs on patients of all ages including weight, height, blood pressure, pulse ox, heart rate, and respirations.

  • Maintains up to date Emergency Operations Plans for all Mobile Health locations. This includes parking locations, driving routes, Emergent needs including weather, violence, all other safety concerns.

  • Has understanding of all traffic and regulatory procedures in all counties. Ensures employees of Mobile Health have same understanding.

  • Supports policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards of the Carle Health System. Maintains confidentiality and adheres to HIPAA regulations.

  • Enhances professional growth and development by accessing educational programs, job related literature, in-service meetings, and workshops/seminars.

  • Assists with data collection and the development of spreadsheets to assist with Mobile Health Service Leadership with improvement projects, outreach, and growth. Brings innovation and ideas for further growth and development.

  • Assist passengers in boarding and disembarking from the vehicle in a safe manner when staffing a unit.

  • Assists Mobile Health Services Leadership with the Vaccines for Children needs and regulations.

  • Will maintain competencies to perform duties as Patient Service Representative that will allow best staffing for Mobile Health Services.
