Veterinary Clinical Medicine
The Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine and the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) invite applications for a faculty position at the rank of clinical assistant professor, instructor or lecturer. The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory serves the State of Illinois, the College of Veterinary Medicine, and many national and international medicine and research groups. This position is a full-time, twelve-month appointment and is available beginning on or around June 16, 2025.
Requirements: Candidates must possess a DVM and PhD with experience in molecular epidemiology of wildlife and excellent communication/interpersonal skills are preferred.
Duties: The major responsibilities of this position are to provide service in the Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, to teach pre-clinical lectures/courses to veterinary students, to participate in the diagnostic training of zoological house officers, and to develop a research program, which can be independent or collaborative. Specifically, this person will be utilizing diagnostic techniques such as conventional PCR, quantitative PCR, multiplex assays, fungal culture, statistical modeling of infectious and non-infectious diseases, and assay development.
The successful candidate will join a wildlife epidemiology service with one other faculty member and 1.5 full-time dedicated technicians. Additionally, there are 4 additional faculty members and 6 residents in Zoological Medicine that are within the same department. The diagnostic work includes samples presented to the VDL and local field activities. The current caseload is over 1000 cases/year. The Wildlife Epidemiology Section is recognized as a leader in development and application of wildlife diagnostics by our clients in zoos/aquaria, academic institutions, and governmental organizations.
