Job Summary
The Building Heat/Frost Insulator Foreperson plans, schedules, coordinates, and supervises the work of insulators. In addition, this position installs, maintains, and repairs insulation as a working foreperson.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Directly supervises, provides leadership, and assigns work to insulators to be completed in accordance with prioritized needs and schedules. Plans and organizes insulator maintenance and alteration work performed by insulators and other assigned personnel. Provides estimates by providing labor and material costs for projects, which may include departmental charge-out, maintenance repairs, and preventative maintenance. Works closely with the work management center, project coordinators, engineering, and building maintenance. Monitors schedule and controls craft-related costs. Performs insulator work as needed or assigned.
- Monitors work performance of assigned personnel and ensures satisfactory work quality and completion requirements are being met. Monitors work to ensure compliance with prevailing codes and university facilities standards as well as correct procedures and techniques. Visits job sites to ensure satisfactory work quality and completion requirements are being met.
- Maintains records of work completed, material purchasing, overtime lists, and training records. Verifies and approves mobile timekeeping and/or timecards.
- Participates in job/project meetings with other job/project stakeholders (e.g., campus customers, project coordinators, etc.). Participates in multi-craft work order review meetings with building maintenance supervision.
- Responsible for tools, equipment, and materials assigned for use in the insulators shop. Inventories tools and equipment.
- Makes recommendations for safety initiatives and programs, hiring and discipline, and addresses performance issues. Responsible for safety and policy enforcement.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Additional Physical Demands
Must adhere F&S safety and health policies by ensuring shop tools and equipment are functioning properly, monitoring personnel to assure safety and security policies are being followed, promote safe operations, and support departmental safety initiatives and programs. Must be aware of potential danger from moving parts.
Must be able to work amid hazards of work sites such as exposure to chemicals, radiation, heat, cold, dust, fumes, noise, animals, laboratories, coal fired power plant, molten lead, and welding arcs. Use of personal protective equipment is required when hazards exist.
May work in extreme weather conditions and temperature extremes ranging from freezing weather to steam tunnels.
Must be able to walk, climb, bend, and crawl in order to access any work area such as attics, crawl spaces, false floors, ceilings, and scaffolds. Must be able to work at heights on lifts, scaffolds, ladders of all types, and bucket truck for lengths of time.
Must be able to multi-task on a routine basis due to the number of issue that must be dealt with daily, and the workload associated with the position can be stressful at times.
Works at the direction of the superintendent of building maintenance. Work is assigned through the work management group, service office, superintendent of building maintenance, or director of building maintenance or his designee in oral or written form. Must be able to work self-managed with limited supervision.
Must be able to interact with supervision, peers, employees, customers, and the campus community. Creates a work environment which develops accountability for performance and develops teamwork and unity within the shop and throughout campus.
Must be able to deliver tools, materials, and personnel to job site as needed operating a university vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Five (5) years of work experience as a Building Heat/Frost Insulation journeyman.
Preferred Qualifications
Possession of a valid State of Illinoi
