The mission of the Chemistry Division (http://www.bnl.gov/chemistry) is to advance basic and applied science for new energy conversion and storage technologies. The Artificial Photosynthesis group conducts cutting-edge research in the advancement of fundamental knowledge of the processes leading to efficient conversion of solar energy to viable chemical fuels using abundant feedstocks such as water and carbon dioxide.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coding in Python to analyze powder diffraction data collected on 2D area detectors
  • Statistical analysis of image data and diffraction peak data
  • Regular presentation and discussion of results

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in chemistry or a related field of study
  • Experience coding in Python to solve scientific problems
  • Experience working with 2D area detector image data from synchrotron powder diffraction experiments
  • Experience fitting probability density distributions
  • Experience with launch mode of TOPAS software for fitting X-ray diffraction data
  • Experience with independent preparation of written and oral scientific presentations

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team

  • It is expected that work will be done remotely with communication through regular Zoom meetings
  • Brookhaven Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $16.00 - $28.75 p/h. Salary offers will be commensurate with the final candidate's qualification, education and experience and considered with the internal peer group.
