Melwood PDT INSTRUCTOR (Abili-IT Technology Program) -Upper Marlboro and Arlington in Upper Marlboro, Maryland

The PDT Instructor is responsible for implementing, instructing, and coordinating the Abili-IT program within the Employee Support Services (ESS).

The EDS Instructor supports an assigned group of individuals to promote independence, personal growth, and employment readiness.

The EDS Instructor ensures integration of employment, skills development, and job exploration in everyone’s experience. The position will be a hybrid delivery of Arlington and Upper Marlboro sites.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The program schedule, activities, and training programs promote community, self-help, social, and employment skills based on the set curriculum. *

  • Please work with the ESS staff and individuals to implement their Plan from DORS within the supported employment program integrating them into employment, job skills development, and job exploration. *

  • Inform the DORS Case Manager and other interdisciplinary team members on behavioral and programmatic issues that occur. *

  • Provide services as outlined in DORS Individual Plans – ensuring goals are developed, implemented, and met progress benchmarks. *

  • Monitor the development of individual goals for each participant.

  • Demonstrate positive behavioral management techniques and communicate with individuals person-centered, age-appropriate manner. *

  • Complete progress notes, daily logs, timesheets, individual planning activities, and other documentation thoroughly, accurately, and promptly. *

  • Facilitate an individual’s self-esteem through positive interactions and building a relationship of trust. *

  • Network with Community Resources to provide a guest lecture series supplementary to the Skills Training program and enhance the current curriculum to include volunteer service and outside educators. *

  • Attend and actively participate in required training, stakeholder team meetings, and supervision meetings. *

  • Ensure individuals receive appropriate training related to training programs and services. *

  • Maintain standard operating procedures within the Professional Development Training Program. *

  • Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

The incumbent is supervised by the Associate Director of Employee Support Services.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS

A flexible schedule will be required due to varying hours. Must be able to stand/walk 50% of work time, sit and drive 50%. Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull 20 pounds. Must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and reach. All of these requirements are necessary to supervise and assist individuals with disabilities.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in special education, social work, psychology, or related field and experience working with people with disabilities required. Must be certified in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid. Another departmental training is necessary to maintain the position. Demonstrated ability in providing support in a respectful manner that meets the various needs of individuals served and previous teaching or training experience required.

This position may require the use of your vehicle to transport persons served. All Melwood transportation policies must be followed, and liability insurance on your car must be in full force and effect while transporting for or on behalf of Melwood. Melwood will reimburse for mileage according to the Travel policy.
