JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Position available immediately for a Research Technologist Professional in the Sipe laboratory of Eberly College of Science at The Pennsylvania State University. The Sipe laboratory utilizes cutting-edge techniques in neuroscience to study the interface between neurons and glia in sensory processing across distinct brain states. Projects in the laboratory will involve studying how approach and avoidance movements differentially modulate sensory processing. The successful applicant will perform laboratory research under the supervision of the principal investigator (PI) and laboratory manager. Experiments will include the following techniques: mouse behavioral training/shaping, brain tissue collection/preparation, histological staining, and confocal imaging. The position will also occasionally require general lab maintenance, autoclaving, reagent preparation, and data organization. Participation in lab meetings and project development is highly encouraged. Must work effectively in a team setting, be able to communicate well, and keep clear records. Specific skills that are necessary also include data management using common software programs.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The successful applicant must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to work both semi-independently and collaboratively in a research team, good interpersonal skills, and the ability to communicate clearly with team members and the PI. This appointment is funded for one year from date of hire with possibility of re-funding.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$34,800.00 - $50,500.00
