JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Materials Research Institute at Penn State seeks outstanding applicants for a Research Project Manager position to be a part of the Department of Energy funded Engineering Frontiers Research Center on 3D Ferroelectric Microelectronics (3DFeM).

This position is supervised by the 3dFeM Director. This position directs and executes the center management functions of a large, multi-year U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) proposal while organizing and executing on the overall workflow of activities reporting to and under the direction of the Center's Technical Director.

The Research Project Manager is responsible for managing the 3DFeM. In this position, the research project manager interacts with faculty within PSU and at other universities.The incumbent implements management practices and recommends adjustments when appropriate, prepares external and internal reports, liaises with other Penn State units as appropriate, facilitates collaborations among various areas of the 3DFeM as it relates to user projects, participates in the strategic planning and changes to the user program.

This is a 75% full-time equivalency (FTE) job and will work 30 hours per week.

Responsibilities: The responsibilities of this position include the following: Manage reports inputs and compilations - Responsible for submission of all sponsor required reports. Continually coordinate the gathering/consolidation of all Quarterly and annual report data. Create early timelines and templates, to shared report folders. Continually Follow up to ensure all PI's inputs are included on both the required metrics and the research highlight reports. Follow up, when necessary for the theme leaders, to receive inputs from PIs. Draft/edit and provide final draft to submit high quality final reports to sponsors on time. Manage budgets - Track all budget spending and work on setting budget accounts based on allocations each year. Coordinate with other offices at Penn State to ensure compliance in spending and monitor spending rate. Prepare any budget reports required by DoE or the Center Director. Ensure that all match students have been properly allocated. Maintain database on center metrics - Duties include the collection of metrics from center PIs and input to center database. Prepare center presentations to the Science Advisory Board meetings, and Annual Reviews for Sponsors. Provide support to Center PIs and associated faculty to provide DOE reporting requirements - PIs are required to regularly submit reports and publications to DOE and this position coordinates with faculty to assure timely compliance. Check the acknowledgements for all center papers to ensure compliance with Department of Energy guidelines. Host, coordinate, communicate, sponsor, and arrange webinars and center meetings - Coordination of a large center requires many meetings between center members (Theme meetings, executive meetings, etc.) and between center members and sponsors. This position is responsible to secure speakers, hold test sessions with presenter, coordinate times for meetings, set up required meeting applications (WebEx, Zoom, Teams), send out invitations, support meeting logistics, record, edit, archive, and distribute meeting recordings. Arrange and coordinate onsite annual review report and meeting - 3DFeM hosts an annual review of prior year research progress. Admin will organize/publish agenda, coordinate with DOE, invite all participants, manage student poster presentations, assist attendees with travel logistics, arrange meetings and support, secure hotel block of rooms, arrange for group meals including restaurant dinner with transportation, and support meeting in person including AV, and meeting documentation to insure smooth operation. Website update - create and maintain content, keep updated news and events. Work with director and associated faculty to identify all information to be included in center website, coordinate with web site designer, keep information on site current. Coordinate the hiring of Postdocs - work with department Human Resources representative on the hiring of new post docs and other positions as needed. General administrative duties - general duties for director in support of management and administrative needs and may include, general meeting organization, equipment purchases, supplies and record keeping for audit purposes.

Education and Experience: This position requires a minimum of a Master's degree and 1+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other qualifications include strong computer skills, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, project management skills, excellent analytical, organizational, problem solving, verbal and written communication skills and knowledge of conference software such as WebEx and Zoom. Must have a professional demeanor with the ability to provide excellent customer service to a diverse audience in a positive and collaborative manner. Management and leadership experience essential.

Preferred Qualifications: In-depth knowledge of university administrative policies, procedures and operation preferred.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is: $61,800.00 - $89,600.00
