JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Lasky Lab at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a Postdoctoral Scholar with expertise in evolutionary genomics, especially population and quantitative genomics. The primary responsibility of the Postdoc will be to develop and test hypotheses on the genomic basis of parasite population adaptation to different hosts. In particular, the project will focus on the adaptation of parasitic plant populations to different crop and wild hosts, using whole genome resequencing and host-parasite experiments. These parasitic plants are major constraints on production of many crops across the globe. The Postdoc will use computational genetic approaches using diversity collections of large numbers of parasitic plant populations, leveraging the parasitic plant quarantine facility at Penn State. Expertise in plants and host-parasite interactions is beneficial but not required. The Postdoc will also collaborate with a team of postdocs at Penn State, UMass-Amherst, and potentially others in North America and Africa, to identify and test host-specificity genes; and to dissect their evolution. The Postdoc will prepare publications for high-quality peer-reviewed journals, present findings at international scientific conferences, and receive mentoring to advance their scientific career.

The successful applicant will be committed to rigorous application of the scientific method for genetic discoveries; The Postdoc will have strong communication skills (written and oral) and commitment to inclusion that will allow them to contribute to and/or lead collaborations across a diverse international team of scientists. The position is supported as part of an NSF funded project on parasitic plant adaptation. The successful applicant will hold a Ph.D. in biology, genetics, evolution, botany, or related fields.

This is a term appointment funded for one year from date of hire, with possibility of re-funding.
