JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Postdoc Positions in Cryo-EM Studies of Amyloids, Virus/Host Interactions, and Protein Complexes
Three postdoctoral scholar positions are immediately available in the Jiang lab at Penn State University in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. The lab is located in the Millennium Complex of Sciences with state-of-the-art instruments for cryo-EM, including Titan Krios and Talos Arctica TEMs (https://www.huck.psu.edu/core-facilities/cryo-electron-microscopy-facility) with energy filters and direct electron detectors for single-particle cryoEM and cryo-ET, and a Hydra FIB-SEM in 2025 for in situ structural studies of cellular and tissue sections. The lab has multiple GPU workstations and access to the university computing center.
The postdoctoral scholars will join an interdisciplinary team and work on cryo-EM structural studies of amyloids in neurodegenerative diseases, virus/host interactions, and protein complexes relevant to cancers using single-particle cryoEM and cryo-ET. The daily work involves cryo-EM sample preparation/screening, data collection, image processing, 3D reconstruction, and structural modeling/analyses. Please check our publications (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=kzk6nJEAAAAJ) to learn about our research interests.
A Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related field is required by the appointment date.
The ideal candidate should have:
Highly self-motivated and passionate for cryo-EM structural studies
Ideally, prior experience in cryo-EM sample preparation/screening, data collection, and image processing/3D reconstruction, but relevant experiences in structural biology, biophysics, biochemistry, chemistry, and computations will also be considered. "Makers" of new sample preparation methods and image analysis algorithms are welcome to apply.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Excellent communication and writing skills
Applications must be submitted electronically and include your CV, a cover letter describing your research experiences, interests, and career goals. Contact information of three references should be sent to Prof. Wen Jiang at wxj5136@psu.edu.
This is a term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with possibility of refunding.
