JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Global is seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented administrative professional to join the Education Abroad team at Penn State’s University Park campus. The Advising and Engagement Assistant (part-time) will assist the Advising and Engagement team with managing a cohort of undergraduate student advisers (i.e., Peer Advisers) who provide front-line advising services and participate in outreach activities aimed at promoting and increasing access to education abroad opportunities to Penn State students across the University.

The Education Abroad (EA) office is a fast-paced and student-centered environment that serves as the primary administrative office facilitating education abroad opportunities at all Penn State campuses. The Advising and Engagement Assistant will join the EA Advising and Engagement team and begin training in August 2024. The appointment will continue through the Spring 2025 Semester. This is a part-time opening and candidates interested in this opening must be available 18-20 hours per week during the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 Semesters.

Job DutiesThe successful candidate for the part-time Advising and Engagement Assistant opening will be responsible for the following:

  • Serve as the primary coordinator for a cohort of 12-15 part-time undergraduate student workers (peer advisers) who provide in-person and Zoom advising services to prospective education abroad students throughout the academic year.

  • Organize and maintain student worker schedules to ensure ample coverage for in-person and virtual advising appointments and fill in as needed.

  • Provide support and guidance to peer advisers in their day-to-day responsibilities.

  • Support the education abroad advisers, including general education abroad advising , participation in recruitment and outreach activities, and administrative tasks as needed.

The Advising and Engagement Assistant position is based at the Penn State University Park campus (Boucke building). This opening would be an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or current graduate student interested in the field of international education, student engagement, and/or peer mentoring.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • The successful candidate will have excellent communication, organizational, and team-oriented skills in addition to proficiency in Microsoft 365.

  • The ideal candidate for this opening must have demonstrated strong leadership skills in current or previous experiences and a strong enthusiasm for working with students.

  • Experience living or studying abroad or working in a multicultural environment is highly valued.
