JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Service and repair all categories of construction and heavy equipment such as, but not limited to, backhoes, payloaders, cranes, compressors, tractors, graders, dozers, trucks and buses

  • Locate problems accurately, determine the extent of repairs needed, perform repairs

  • Select and order necessary replacement parts or assemblies

  • Perform minor repairs as well as major overhauls on the above class of equipment

  • Diagnose problems which occur with equipment

  • Identify the problem, using various types of diagnostic equipment including pressure gauges, compression testers, micrometers, calipers, wheel alignment and balancing equipment, etc.

  • Determine the best method and extent of repairs needed

  • Remove, disassemble, repair, reassemble, reinstall, test and adjust equipment and/or component parts such as gasoline and diesel engines, manual, automatic and hydrostatic transmissions, transaxles, differentials, drive shafts, alternators, generators, carburetors, turbo chargers, hydraulic systems, fuel injection systems, electrical systems, brake systems, cooling systems, etc.

  • Detect unusual conditions or defective materials and report to supervisor

  • Inspect all classes of vehicles according to Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Inspection regulations

  • Record all parts and repairs on work order

  • Perform minor repairs on automobiles, light trucks and vans

  • Operate emergency equipment such as wrecker and service vehicles

  • Make nonaesthetic rough body repairs when needed

  • Maintain work area in a clean and orderly condition

  • Occasionally answer questions for and direct the work of lower grade employee

Job Requirements: Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft. Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education. Knowledge of the repair and maintenance of a wide variety of heavy equipment such as trucks, front-end loader, automobiles and various movable road and service equipment, and automobile air conditioning equipment. A Pennsylvania Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A with airbrakes, MACS or equivalent air conditioning certification, Category 1 and 3 Pennsylvania State Inspection License and Emissions Certification. Over 2 years up to and including 3 years of effective experience required.

Work Schedule: 7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Days Off: Saturday, Sunday

A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS. NOTE: THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO FEDERAL DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TESTING FOR ALCOHOL AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES (49 CFR PART 40), AND PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS AS PER PA CODE 231.85.
