JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: The Energy Science and Power Systems Division of the Applied Research Laboratory at Penn State is seeking a non-tenure research faculty candidate to join our team to conduct power and energy systems research and development, execute and manage complex projects and develop relationships to secure funding from potential sponsors. We are seeking an individual who can perform research independently, generate new ideas for future funding, and collaborate with other ARL or Penn State faculty. The Energy Science and Power Systems Division at the Penn State Applied Research Lab performs critical research and development in the design, prototyping, and testing of energy and power systems for Naval applications. These include high-energy-density systems for underwater vehicle propulsion, as well as other applications with unique constraints (outer space, stationary underwater power, etc.).

You will: Develop, research, and explore prototype power systems development (modeling, design, build, and testing) for underwater applications and/or other unique applications Execute existing and future programs, develop new concepts, and write proposals to internal and external sponsors. Conduct hands on research (computational and/or experimental) and provide leadership to achieve program objectives Engage with related academic units at Penn State University to foster collaboration and leverage University resources

Faculty rank will be commensurate with education level and experience. Minimum requirements include a Master's degree (PhD preferred) in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, or a similar engineering discipline.

Required: A strong technical background with experience in design, analysis, testing, and/or computational analysis for power and energy systems Excellent written and oral communication skills A minimum of 5 years research (including MS and Ph.D. work) and/or engineering experience including a track record of successful project / team leadership

Preferred: Experience in the following areas: power and energy systems, combustion dynamics, electrochemical devices (battery and fuel cell), heat exchangers, chemical reactions, experimental diagnostics, systems engineering, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), finite element analysis (FEA), materials/component selection, and other related areas
