My client is a large religious organization offering an opportunity for a Staff Accountant to join their team in northern Virginia. In this role, you will be involved in various accounting and financial tasks. You will assist in managing accounts payable and receivable, maintaining the general ledger, and supporting audit processes.

Responsibilities:

• Assist in processing invoices, expense reports, and check requests as part of the accounts payable and receivables team

• Help maintain and update the general ledger, prepare journal entries, and perform month-end and year-end closing entries

• Support account and bank reconciliations

• Assist with internal and external audits to ensure compliance with policies, procedures and regulations

• Maintain accurate and organized financial records and documentation

• Support in the preparation of budgets and forecasts

• Perform data entry for various accounting functions and maintain accounting databases

• Provide administrative support to the finance team as needed, including scheduling meetings, handling correspondence, and responding to calls and emails

• Assist with the coordination of special projects or requests, conducting research and compiling data as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum of 1 year of experience in a Staff Accountant role or similar

• Proficiency in Accounts Payable (AP) processes

• Experience with bank reconciliations

• Knowledge of General Ledger operations

• Ability to prepare and record journal entries

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field preferred

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel

• Experience with accounting software is a plus

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy

• Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines

• Understanding of accounting principles and regulations
