Phifer Incorporated Testa Operator in Tuscaloosa, Alabama
Job Summary: The SG Testa Operator is responsible for the setting up of rolls of specialty product to be processed through the Testa machine. The operator is also responsible for the correct settings of the testa per specifications. Management my assign additional duties as needed.
Essential Functions: Will perform all tasks pertaining to setting up of the Testa to specifications prior to running fabric through testa by reading and performing written instructions. Will perform all tasks required to verify that correct material is scheduled and ran through testa according to procedures by reading and performing written instructions. Will load material recipe and start-up testa according to specification instructions by reading and performing written instructions. Will verify proper packaging materials are selected and loaded for Testa machine. Will adjust machine settings per specifications as documented by reading and performing written instructions. Will measure all screen for correct size using tape measure as documented by reading and performing written instructions. Will prepare all paperwork required for various size rolls according to specifications by reading and performing written instructions. Will assist other Testa operator in loading or moving fabric off Testa as documented by reading and performing written instructions. Will perform any required maintenance to Testa machine as documented by reading and performing written instructions. Will perform end of shift and hour-by-hour duties as documented by reading and performing written instructions. Will ensure that all material processed on Testa machine is processed according to material specifications.
Non-Essential Functions: May perform 5S tasks as needed. May replace slitter blades as needed. May grade screen for quality and quantity and remove fabric rolls to storage. May relieve employees on vacation, holiday, or otherwise absent.
Special Demands/Responsibilities: Must perform all duties in a safe manner. Must perform other departmental duties as assigned by management. Must handle and move material without damage to it. Must document and prepare tickets for rolls tentered. Must be able to read a tape measure to 1/32 on an inch. Must be able to work overtime as scheduled or assigned.
Supervision Received: Will receive direct supervision from Testa Manager, shift supervisor and or team leader.
Acceptable Education: Prefer a High School Diploma or GED. Currently assessed in reading and mathematics at an 8th grade equivalency or higher based on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) exam through our Continuous Education and Development (CED) program or have the appropriate WorkKeys score based on the job profile.
Acceptable Training and Experience: Prefer 6 months previous work experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment. Prefer 6 months tentering/grading experience. Prefer knowledge of tentering/grading operations.
Certificates and Licenses Required: Must have or be able to receive certification in forklift operations and lockout/tagout.
Physical Demands: Ability to push, pull, front carry, horizontal lift and floor to waist lift using correct lifting procedures. Ability to lift very heavy materials occasionally using correct lifting procedures. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch and flex trunk frequently. Must have 20/35 or correctable vision in each eye. Must wear safety shoes and comply with all safety rules.
