A Welder/Fabricator is a skilled tradesperson who uses welding techniques to cut, shape, and join metal components together to create various structures and products, often following blueprints, by performing tasks like cutting, bending, fitting, and welding metal pieces, requiring both welding proficiency and fabrication skills to build complete assemblies.
Key responsibilities of a welder fabricator may include:
· Reading and interpreting blueprints:
Accurately interpreting technical drawings and specifications to understand the required dimensions and design of the fabricated piece.
· Material preparation:
Cutting metal stock to size using cutting tools like plasma cutters, saws, or shears.
· Metal forming:
Bending, shaping, and forming metal components using various fabrication techniques like press brakes, rolling machines, or hand tools.
· Fitting and aligning:
Precisely fitting and aligning metal parts before welding to ensure proper assembly.
· Welding operations:
Performing various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG, or arc welding) to join metal pieces according to specified welding parameters.
· Grinding and finishing:
Grinding welds to smooth surfaces and finishing fabricated components with appropriate methods like sanding or polishing.
· Quality control:
Inspecting welds for defects and ensuring compliance with quality standards.
· Assembly and installation:
Assembling fabricated components into complete structures and installing them on site as needed.
Required skills and qualifications:
· Welding certification:
Certified in one or more welding processes, such as MIG, TIG, or arc welding.
· Blueprint reading skills:
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints accurately.
· Metal fabrication skills:
Knowledge of various metal forming techniques like bending, cutting, and shaping.
· Hand and power tool proficiency:
