Fedcap Tobacco Cessation & Parenting Manager in Tupelo, Mississippi

JOB PURPOSE

To promote and protect the health of all Mississippians by reducing tobacco-related disease and death and to implement a comprehensive statewide strategy that includes tobacco education, prevention, and cessation programs.

JOB SUMMARY

To develop and implement the Mississippi Tobacco-Free Coalition Program to reduce initiation of tobacco and ENDS use, promote tobacco cessation, eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke and eliminate tobacco-related disparities in Lee and Chickasaw Counties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develop, identify and implement a general coalition with a minimum of 15 individuals, composed of citizens residing in each county who are interested in and willing to participate in tobacco prevention and control activities.

  2. Advocate to decrease the influence of the tobacco industry and increase smoke- free air policies by working with municipalities and/or counties that do not have comprehensive smoke free air ordinances.

  3. Develop, identify and implement age/appropriate evidence-based tobacco prevention programmatic activities while supporting the work of the youth programs sub-grantee.

  4. Assist the MSDH Communications Department in producing a variety of communications and advocacy materials to inform media outlets, the general public and partners in the public health community about tobacco prevention, policy and news.

  5. Educate and refer individual tobacco users to the tobacco cessation interventions, such as the Mississippi Tobacco Quitline and conduct in person Freedom From Smoking classes to disparate populations.

Required Education and Job Experience

  • Minimum associate’s degree in relevant field; preference for bachelor’s degree

  • Experience directly related to public health, environmental protection, other MTFC coalitions, and/or education ·

  • Public Speaking, with a preference for classroom environment with young adults

  • Strong communication skills, time management skills, strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines in urgent situations.
