Actalent Mechanical Designer/Drafter in Tulsa, Oklahoma

Job Title: Mechanical Designer/DrafterJob Description

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer/Drafter with a High School diploma and at least 1 year of relevant work or educational experience. The ideal candidate will have technical skills in computer-aided drafting, a basic understanding of mathematics, and experience with 3-D modeling techniques. This role requires proficiency with Inventor software, though candidates with SolidWorks experience will be considered and trained on Inventor.

Responsibilities

  • Review customer contract drawings, specifications, or instructions from team members, supervisors, engineering, customer service, sales, and marketing.

  • Investigate and analyze design problems, determining changes, corrections, and requirements to meet project demands.

  • Make sketches for use by other designer/drafters and interpret specifications and standards.

  • Requisition parts and products that are used in or interface with company products.

  • Prepare lists and quantities for use by others in the purchasing function.

  • Communicate with customers, both orally and in writing, to resolve specification questions in preparation of drawings.

  • Provide assistance and input on a project basis to other team members in the development of shop drawings.

  • Maintain required productivity output and order accuracy in accordance with departmental priorities.

  • Maintain an accurate filing system of customer requirements and an awareness of current drafting policies and procedures.

  • Identify, recommend, and help implement changes to standard drafting procedures and systems to improve customer acceptance or reduce product cost.

  • Handle special assignments as requested by the Division Drafting Manager/Drafting Supervisor.

  • Provide technical or drafting support to any department for projects that enhance product or company interests.

  • Comply with company attendance policy and follow prescribed safety rules and regulations.

Essential Skills

  • Technical skills in computer-aided drafting.

  • Basic understanding of mathematics, including Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry.

  • Experience with 3-D modeling techniques.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawings, design constraints, and product requirements.

  • Strong professional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

  • Problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a number/math orientation.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Ability to identify, communicate, and participate in process improvement opportunities.

  • Team-oriented with excellent customer focus and positive feedback.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree in Drafting.

  • Strong working knowledge of 3D Computer-Aided Design Software such as AutoCAD 2019, PDF (Nitro Pro), Zoom, and Inventor 2019.

  • Experience with scientific calculators and drafting equipment.

  • Basic knowledge of Valmont products is preferred.

Work Environment

The role involves working on-site for five 8-hour days initially, with the potential to transition to a hybrid work schedule after 3-4 weeks of in-office training. The work environment is fast-paced and deadline-driven. The team consists of seven members, with six based in Tulsa and one remote in Missouri. The design lead has been with the company for 35 years, and the team has a strong tenure, with the least experienced member having three years of experience.
