King County Housing Authority Youth Programs Coordinator in Tukwila, Washington

Job Summary

*This position is open until filled; however, to ensure consideration applications should be submitted by September 13, 2024, at 4:30 p.m.  *  King County Housing Authority (KCHA) is currently recruiting for a talented and motived Youth Programs Coordinator to join our Social Impact team.  This position is based out of the Central Office located in Tukwila and will report to the Senior Resident Services Manager of Educational Initiatives.     This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with the aptitude and enthusiasm to develop, organize, implement and monitor the services that support KCHA's education and youth focused initiatives.  The Youth Programs Coordinator has the primary responsibility of assisting in oversight of KCHA's youth centered programs and initiatives.  To be successful in this role, the candidate will have the skills, experience and passion to effectively support the success of youth serving organizations who serve children residing in KCHA properties.   King County Housing Authority (KCHA) is the largest provider of affordable housing in the Pacific Northwest and a nationally recognized leader in affordable housing. Essential Functions

 

  • Utilizes evidence based best practices to assist in developing and implementing KCHA youth program initiatives, including program approaches to support the academic success of children participating in the Authority's housing programs. 
  • Works closely with KCHA households to educate parents and children on the importance of out of school time programs, the role regular attendance in those programs plays in improving academic success, and to empower parents to play an active role in their children's education. 
  • Assesses youth serving partners needs as they relate to supporting educational outcomes for KCHA youth; provides and explains information about services and programs; establishes and maintains positive working relationships with school districts, schools and community partners to support academic success by ensuring that programs have access to current information, services and assistance for which they qualify. 
  • Participates in meetings at Place Based Education Initiative sites focused on education to promote the academic success and positive life outcomes of children and youth living in KCHA properties.   
  • Coordinates community of practice activities for KCHA youth providers; provides enhanced educational opportunities and makes informational and educational presentations to providers; advocates for providers as it relates to education. 
  • Maintains files, completes paperwork, reports and attends to other administrative duties including departmental meetings and serving on agency committees. 
  • Works with residents, school districts, service providers, property and facility managers, and other community partners; helps residents and service providers develop and implement programs, resources, and services that may be needed by the community. 

     

Qualifications and Competencies

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree with preferred degrees in education, social work, human services, public administration or closely related field *AND *
  • Considerable experience in education, social work, housing programs and/or community development programming OR
  • An equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
