Job Purpose

The Applied Sciences department designs and develops real-time optimization engines for automated and manned systems across the mining value stream with special focus on load & haul operation. In addition, it researches and develops predictive models based on data analytics on the cloud and on the edge.

The Applied Sciences department is looking for a Systems Engineer to help to design and develop flexible and scalable solutions for some of the most complex challenges in large-scale computing.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Business Requirements: Create and maintain Business Requirements Analysis documents

  • Work with SME's and stakeholders to understand, clarify and prioritize Business Requirements with clear success criteria.

  • Ensure designers, developers, and stakeholders understand the requirements, system structure, deployment configurations, and underlying behaviors of the integrated entities.

System Requirements: Create mapping of Business Requirement to technical User Stories to implement solutions (functional and non-functional requirements) for traceability.

  • Manage changes in requirement & design during the design and development,

  • Ensure solution components by different teams and their integration satisfy the BR,

  • Identify gaps and risks; work with team leads to create and plan a solution accordingly

Technical Design Documents: Create and maintain Component Design Documents

  • Ensure components are correctly reflected on System Context and Container Diagrams (

  • Ensure the documentations follow the structures and templates defined; contribute to improve the structures and templates

Required Skills

  • PhD. in Systems or Industrial Engineering or related

​​​​​​​M.Sc. in Systems or Industrial Engineering or related with 3+ years’ experience

  • Coding skills in at least one major object-oriented language (C#, Kotlin, Java, C++)

  • Demonstrated knowledge of software engineering best-practices, patterns and anti-patterns

  • Ability to create and maintain large and complex system architectures

  • Solid understanding of performance-critical, real-time, highly available and distributed systems

  • Strong analytical skills, experience with domain modeling and requirement elicitation

  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and attention to details

  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills

  • Experience with Agile methodologies
