The Tracked Products Engineering Heavy Structures team is currently seeking a Senior Engineer - Performance/Simulation/Application to lead virtual validation activities related to product maintenance, aftermarket services, Continues Product Improvement (CPI), New Source Introduction (NSI), and New Product Introduction (NPI) functions, with a primary focus on heavy structures for Drills and Large Track Type Tractors (LTTT) products. The selected candidate will serve as an experienced individual contributor on projects and assignments that are complex in nature and that support and enhance Caterpillar product performance, durability, reliability, quality, and serviceability.
What you will do:
In this role, you will work on projects involving the identification, analysis, and resolution of potential structural and durability issues encountered in Heavy structural components during their development and while they are in operation.
• Lead and support linear and nonlinear statics analysis, nonlinear bolted/pinned joint analysis, transient and frequency response dynamics analysis, flex body analysis, and fatigue analysis of Heavy structures for RI Tracked product groups.
• Perform Structural Optimization using state of the art techniques and tools.
• Perform Structural Stress Analysis.
• Perform analysis correlation using test data measured in field, labs or proving ground.
• Mentoring, coaching, and developing.
• Collaborate with design teams to define analysis needs related to new product development, current product improvement, & cost reduction projects.
• Interpret analysis results, communicate design improvement recommendations, and prepare detailed technical reports and documents for design reviews and archival.
• Major challenges facing incumbents are meeting goals for cost, reliability, and performance, and managing multiple priorities. This position must keep up to date on changing customer needs as the project progresses and stay current with new technology.
• Learning will focus on methods, processes and systems applied to engineering functions, key engineering and communication skills, practical application of theory, and building a comprehensive knowledge of Caterpillar’s products and its applications, customers, suppliers, and competitors.
Education requirements: Bachelor’s degree in an accredited Engineering curriculum.
What skills you will have:
Technical Excellence: Knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
FEA using ABAQUS, NASTRAN, ANSYS or Creo Simulate.
Solid modeling using CREO and FEA pre/post software like Hypermesh, NX, & Simlab.
Strain and Stress based Fatigue life evaluation using FESAFE, nCode or similar fatigue codes.
Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Problem Solving: Knowledge of approaches, tools, techniques for recognizing, anticipating, and resolving organizational, operational or process problems; ability to apply knowledge of problem solving appropriately to diverse situations.
Project Management: Knowledge of effective project management strategies and tactics; ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources to achieve project objectives.
Top Candidates will also have :
Demonstrated experience in design development and virtual validation of Heavy Structures and Linkages or Light Structural components.
Proficiency in the use of Multibody dynamics tools like DYNASTY or similar MBD codes.
Proficiency in performing analysis and correlation of dynamically excited structural systems and components.
Proficiency in Structural Optimization using ASTROLAB, OPTISTRUCT, or similar tools.
Proficiency in data acquisition, digital signal processing and analysis using DATK, or similar tools.
Previous experience in data analytics, machine learning (ML), reduced order models (ROM) technique applications in the context of finite element analysis.
Proficiency in Software programming skills for engineering analysis and process automation such as Python, VBA, MATLAB, etc.
Additional Information :
The locations for this position are East Peoria, IL, or Tucson, AZ.
Relocation assistance is available for this position.
This position may require less than 10% travel.
Summary Pay Range:
$110,520.00 - $165,840.00
