Smyth Industries Welding/ Fabrication Division is currently searching for an individual with Water Infrastructure Industry experience as a Welding/Fabrication Technician to help enhance our current team. We provide full-service electrical, civil, manufacturing, engineering and general contracting services for the water and reclamation industry.

The ideal candidate will foster teamwork and create a positive work environment in a fast-paced industry, while helping our Arizona clients engineer, rehabilitate, manufacture and construct water distribution and treatment infrastructure.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Exhibit technical knowledge and experience in the welding and fabrication trade experience.

  • Provide effective project communication, both orally and in writing.

  • Ability to understand and work from shop drawings.

  • Ability to thrive in a team environment and work with other divisions.

  • Complete nonroutine task as assigned.

  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment and keep parts and supplies in order.

  • Perform skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled laboring duties related to installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of welding and fabrication tasks.

  • Reassemble equipment, using hand tools.

  • Ability to select tools to complete daily job tasks.

  • Proficient in the use of basic hand tools to perform daily job functions: screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, cordless drills, hand operated saw, level, grinders, etc.

  • Fabricating water tanks in the field or shop using common arc welding techniques such as tig, arc, mig, spray transfer, and spot.

  • General site clean-up, digging trenches, staging material, or all other duties as assigned.

People

  • Mentor field staff to develop ways to more efficiently complete assigned tasks while building a strong team environment.

  • Develop a team relationship with other divisions sharing resources to successfully complete projects on time and under budget.

  • Establish and maintain working relationships with owners, agencies, subcontractors, inspectors, etc., providing customer service to develop long-term partnerships with client base and stakeholders.

  • Mentor field staff to develop ways to more efficiently complete assigned tasks while building a strong team environment.

  • Develop a team relationship with other divisions.

  • Ability to lead a team, complete project assigned tasks, while working under minimal supervision

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1-4 years of welding and fabrication experience.

  • Maintain the appropriate certification for the specific welding techniques required for the job used in the field or shop (2G, 3G, 4G, 5G or 6G).

  • Proficient in all the following tasks: tank layout, installing tank appurtenances, welded pipe field connections, etc.

  • Knowledgeable in the following welding techniques and use of machines: tig, arc, mig, spray transfer, and spot

  • Knowledgeable in the use of common metal fabrication equipment i.e.: rollers, man lifts, telehandlers, jacks, come along, porta power, dolly, crane, press brake, etc.

  • Working knowledge of OSHA regulations

  • Self-motivated, task-oriented, leader

  • Required to possess a valid driver's license and legally be able to operate a company vehicle.

  • Required to pass a preemployment drug screening.

  • Must be able to physically perform all required duties which may include bending, lifting 50-pound objects, carrying 50-pound items, squatting, climbing ladders, working in confined spaces, working outdoors most of the time, or standing for prolonged periods of time.

  • Required to wear company supplied Personal Protective Equipment.

  • The applicant should be comfortable working around industrial equipment.

  • Be comfortable frequently working at heights and in confined space while following all necessary safety procedures.

  • English is required for the safety and effective performances of this job
