Guthrie Emergency Services Tech II - Emergency Services - Full Time in Troy, Pennsylvania

Position Summary

Responsible for direct patient care under the supervision of the ED Manager, Registered Nurse, and Physician. Also responsible for the care of equipment and stocking of supplies.

Education, License, & Cert

High school diploma or equivalent required

Experience

At least one (1) year prior experience working in an acute care facility preferred EKG and phlebotomy certification. Must possess ability to successfully interact with stakeholder (patients, providers, community other customers, families, staff, management, physicians, and general public).

Essential Functions

  • Adheres to the standards of care and hospital policies and procedures.

  • Discontinues intravenous peripheral venous catheter access devises.

  • Simple dressing changes as defined by hospital policy.

  • Under the supervision of the Department Manager, Registered Nurse or Physician, assist with the application of splints as well as the fitting and use of crutches and walkers.

  • Assists patients with handling and care of clothing and other personal property.

  • Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment by cleaning and stocking the utility/equipment rooms and proper sterilization and disinfection techniques, reports equipment that is out of order.

  • Maintains courteous and caring attitude toward all patients and families

  • Responsible for assisting families in the waiting area for locating patients, keep families informed of patients’ progress, etc.

  • Appropriately handles clean and dirty supplies on the unit.

  • Assists in and accompanies patients in the admission, transfer, and discharge procedures.

  • Assists Staff Registered Nurse in complicated treatment procedures as requested.

  • Provides patient with accurate and timely personal care, taking and recording vital signs, taking and recording temperatures, pulse, respiration, weight, height, blood pressure, pulse oximetry and intake/output measurements as delegated by Staff Registered Nurse.

  • Performs phlebotomy (as certification allows), EKG and puts patient on monitor.
